Bumrah could be rested for third Test v Eng

Recommended Posts

Jasprit Bumrah, the relentless match-winner in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, may be granted a break for the third Test. The national selectors, in consultation with the team management, are considering resting Bumrah for the Rajkot Test to ensure he returns rejuvenated for the final two Tests. Bumrah was declared the player of the match for his outstanding performance, claiming nine wickets for 91 runs in the just-concluded Test.

Having bowled over 32 overs across four intense days in a high-stakes contest, he showcased his brilliance but may have also considerably sapped his energy, and the selectors recognise the need for Bumrah to refresh and recharge. In the previous Test in Hyderabad, where India suffered a surprise defeat, he bowled nearly 25 overs. The selectors are inclined towards providing Bumrah with some well-deserved rest.

Mohammed Siraj, who was given a similar break for the second Test, is expected to be recalled by the selectors. It is obvious that Siraj will lead the attack in the third game before rejoining forces with Bumrah for the final two Tests of the series. The team selection is anticipated to be finalised on Tuesday (February 6).

There is lot of time left before the 3rd test.  It starts on 15th.   Why need a break?   With our spinners looking cluless on sporting wickets, Bumrah is very much needed.

1. The Indian batting is worse than English batting so it makes the pitch look more livelier.

2. Only Axar struggled in 2nd innings imho. Kuldeep yes, he didn't pick wickets and went for runs but our genius captain Rogit kept him away for so long that the ball became old. These things might seem minor but they make a lot of impact.

3. The field placing. It was beyond horrendous. Foakes was out long back if there was short leg. Hartley was good but kept escaping. Yet had no close in fielders cos we set fields like a phattu. So we played the game on their terms and kept struggling.

If Dhoni, Kohli or Rahane were there, they would have sent this English team packing in 4th innings with proper field placements alone.

Make no mistake.

One of the BIGGEST reason we even won this test was cos we won the toss. And Bummy in first innings.

Had Gill not clicked in 2nd innings by some miracle, we were done even after that.

Our batting is THAT bad.

Bangladesh 2023

Aus 2023

Eng 2024

Alarm bells have been ringing for a long time now.

Once a team starts getting better batters, a more stable captain...you will see such drastic change in outcome....you will wonder how bad we were in this series.

Ambani lobby does not want him to miss IPL with an injury at any cost- to any sane person 10 days is enough break for a fast bowler between tests but obv for BCCI IPL takes priioirty.

So our pacers will be Mukesh and who..?

He isn't a machine, and Rohit has overbowled him to cover for his selection blunder, rest is justified. This is all on Rohit, Dravid.

Sensible strategy would be to go for a raging turner in Rajkot, rest Bumrah and then back to flattish pitches for final 2 tests with Bumrah back.

I dont consider Bumrah to be overbowled at all. In a standard test match of standard team structure, we expect a pacer to be able to bowl at least 40 overs through both innings. Overbowling is when you consistently clock in 25-30 overs an innings as a pacer - something that happened to Kapil, Walsh, Ambrose, etc. Bumrah hasnt been overbowled as of yet.

yes he should get rest..had to put lot of work..all because other pacers free ki khaaye..

also KSB keeper needs to make room for Jurel..I am fed up of this guy..English bolwers bat better than him..and Foakes is miles ahead of him in keeping too..

Raging Turner is not necessarily a good idea. Other than Jaiswal we don't have a single good player of spin in the lineup. Rohit and Gill lacks footwork while Iyer has no clue. Patidar is an unproven entity. Lesser we say about Bharat is better. Note that a 34 yr part timer in Root was good enough for these bunch in first test. We don't want Barstow to bowl and get 7 wickets.

5 back to back flat tracks is overkill. 3 flatties, one rank turner, one green top (Dharamsala), will test everyone and provide the perfect diversity.

Yeah absolutely. McCullum even was willing to play 4 spinners and no pacers and here we are desperate to play 2 seamers no matter what our current strengths are!!

I say we just make a turner at Rajkot and pick 6 batters + keeper + 3 spin allrounders + Kuldeep.

The idea is to win not get brownie points and approving nods from English journalists for making "good" pitches and being an accomodating former colony.
