Leave it bro. We lost mostly to aus who just happen to be slightly better under pressure. We will get there eventually. I agree we have choked in finals but lot of times it's cause we were ill prepared.

T20 is the format that's going to stick around and be more of a global event. Wins here will matter more in the long run than a win in a 9/10 team event in a possibly defunct format. 

 

Plus it's a win away from home. Those are always special

Home wins are always difficult due to expectations.

 

T20 WC will achieve same status only if its held every 4 years instead of 2 years.

The previous 3 winners were home teams though. So it was becoming sort of a trend of hosting the Cup and winning it.

 

Also it's the usual 4/5 teams that are making the semis in ODIs in recent WCs. It's feels like a very closed event among the elite, T20 is less predictable. And that will always have more global appeal

Yeah because these teams are better. T20 brings luck into play, T10 even more so.

Ok, can't live in the past. Got mental baggage out of the way, hope we build on that and have better KO record in coming years....pretty sure we will make it to KOs of at least 80% of all ICC white ball tournaments, maybe 90%

 

Not sure about you guys, whilst I enjoyed yesterday's win, I enjoyed our BGT 2020-21 success a lot more, even that epic SCG draw. So for me at least, ICC events aren't the only important thing. I want us to win more series in SENA, and take home dominance (presently 17 consecutive test series wins, almost double of ATG Aus, more than double of Clive Lloyd's team) to an unprecedented level, be number 1 for next 10 years. Watching us top the test rankings is also very special.

Pretty sure that won't happen, this is sports & with the variety of surfaces at play it's almost an impossibility. Even the best LO side ever, Oz at their peak, would probably not win WT20 as regularly as they did the 50 overs! That's just the nature of the game, although India should still dominate the next decade or two overall.

You have to understand that at one point - excellence trumps variety. No team will win against a team which has say three Bumrahs.

 

US team in basketball (when playing full strength-ish) always wins everything.

 

Australia is a first world country with a small population.

 

India is a third world country (very poor) with a huge population but growing fast. I don't think anyone is competing with a $12k pci India in the mid 2050s. India's peak side that is to come will make that Oz side look very basic.

Its quite disgusting. Most of the match threads in the last few pages had super negative posts as well, I have dropped out of following cricket closely and often come here to check as I dislike cricket news sites. More that one time I would imagine after cursory read of match thread that India lost the match and go check scorecard to lol.  So yeah it's probably got to do with icf culture.

Hmm you have a problem with general anemia that India has in terms of per capita any capability. That's because India is an agglomeration of very poorly developed city states that each service a hinterland of extremely poor country side with uncouth uneducated population that wants no individual accountability for social outcomes. World Cup:    2 misses

 

Lost final to Aus both  in 2003 and 2023 ( after crushing wins against all comers.

 

ICC Test Championship: 2 misses 

 

Lost final in 2021 to NZ after topping the ratings table and beating Aus in Aus

Lost final in 2023 to Aus after topping the ratings table in beating all the big teams comprehensively.

 

ICC Champions trophy:    2 misses 

 

Lost final to NZ in 2000 after dominating the entire tournament

Lost final to Pak in 2017 after dominating the entire tournament

 

T20 World Cup:  1 miss

I don't think any other team has suffered like this after playing so well.

 

We would have been the greatest cricketing nation in the world had we won even 5 of those 7 that we lost.

Higher than CT for sure.  They are different formats. 

 

But ODI World Cup is the real thing.  This was a good win but 2023 continues to be the biggest missed opportunity in Indian cricket.
