Nah it's better to retire on top (relatively speaking) when you feel you still have something to give than carry on past your use by date. Too many examples of the latter type in the past and present.

Looking back , I can immediately think of atleast 5 matches whereAshwin saved us just in the last 4-5 years. Not by going through stats, just by memory I can remember them. Probably the biggest match winner to retire in Tests after Sachin..

Yup. It was unfair. SH88 captaincy. Dropped 6 catchces by Rohit mostly Ashwin's catches. 6 or 7 umpire call in his bowling. He  regretted that he could not contribute lower order runs in his YT video.   That was his biggest regret.   I remember Adam Gilchrist dropped a few catches in 2008 series against India. Then he decided it was time to retire. Dravid after a bad Australian series decided it was time. Ashwin is doing the same. Basically these guys didn't linger far too long . Self-realization has helped them make the decision unlike some shameless guys who cling onto national spot just because they have so many sponsors.
