Despite five Indian batters registering centuries across both innings, India failed to seal the game, leading to questions around on-field leadership. Nasser feels Gill lacked leadership during 1st Test “I saw someone still learning the ropes,” Hussain said on Sky Sports. “He didn't quite show the assertive body language that Rohit and Kohli brought to the field. At times, he appeared to be following the game rather than taking charge of it.” Hussain also said that at times there were two to three captains on the field which wasn't the case during the captaincy eras of Rohit and Kohli. Hussain also pointed to the lack of clarity in leadership on the field, suggesting that India seemed to be operating under “captaincy by committee.” rollingstoned 1
Ultimate_Game Posted June 25 Posted June 25 We need Iyer as captain. Hopefully BCCI sees it and rectifies the error ASAP raki05 and bowl_out 1 1
Prabhdeep Singh Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Rohit and Virat Aura is not built overnight it is years of dedication and performance. Both Rohit and Virat 4 x ICC Tournament winners as well, Aura then becomes a by product of success. Gill has to have special performances then he will command some sort of Aura. A bit unfair to expect an Aura in 1st test match as captain. Best wishes to Gill, he will clearly need luck with bowling attack he has and if pitches are flat in next 4 matches. I would even say Bumrah does not have an Aura like Rohit/Virat in terms of captaincy. Rohit more-so in Odi/t20 before everyone jumps the gun and start attacking, Virat in tests.
bowl_out Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) When Virat -Rohit came in, the same commentators said they don't have Dhoni's aura. Selectors even had Dhoni continue as a player so he could "mentor" Kohli and have smooth transition of captaincy. Now suddenly, the same Kohli's aura is missed? coffee_rules Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) I read the aura in the headline with a 'L' at the beginning. Edited June 25 by coffee_rules Ultimate_Game, BacktoCricaddict, Laaloo and 1 other 4

I don't buy into this leadership BS. Kohli was not performing post 2019 for 3 years with sub-30 batting average, was on the pitch doing all MC, Ben Stokes dramebaazi and get to accolades for leading from the front etc. It adds little value as players are motivated themselves, they need performance on field from everybody.
putrevus Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) They at least took Indian team for two test finals. Let us see if this Indian team is even capable of reaching the finals in 2027. They could have won first one if Ace bowler did not lay a giant egg like yesterday's second innings. So now that there are not there, we will see what sort of winning this team will do both home and away. 2016-2020 India was undisputed best test team under GOAT captain that is why the aura was created. He took a seventh ranked team and turned them into world's best team. Gollum Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Move on, similar was said when Kapil retired, then Sachin, Viru, Zak. Aussies were laughing at Rohit and Kohli in the BGT, that is their present aura. Chaos 1
IndianRenegade Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Of course when you lose you don't have the aura. The only antidote is win games, lets see.
Number Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Against NZ and in BGT we had a lot of on field "aura" but "L" results. Manucrick 1
nevada Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Such a cheap thing for Nasser to say. He himself retired at 35 to make way for youngsters. Rohit is 38 and Kohli will be 37 soon. Does he want them to play forever? Gollum and putrevus 2

Like Washi, Pant, heck Ashwin also got a 100 in the 2nd test. If you are in international cricket for 17-18 years, you are bound to have a few decent series at home. Where is the aura coming from? He was also good in 21 away Eng tour, but so was Rahul. Anyway all batting performances in that series are forgettable because of what Root did. Edited June 26 by Gollum Manucrick 1
raki05 Posted June 26 Posted June 26 (edited) Not sure about captaincy aura but inspite of being young these guys dont have aggression while doing running between wkt or catcching. All morons were laughing including gill while they were about to loose match or after catches being dropped. I thoght post kohli retirement our slip catching problem will be solved but these guys are more worst dropping catches all around. Look at old man stokes and his commitment towards fielding , whereas jaissal, pant inspite of being young doesnt show commitment during running between wkt or catching. Even while batting they look more than happy after achievin 100 than taking team to a strong position. Hope they rectify these lethargic attitude from second test or else its gonna be horror show.
