Dilip Vengsarkar fumes at Jasprit Bumrah for picking matches on personal preferences

Ex-India captain slams Bumrah for playing England Tests on 'personal preference': 'If you are unfit, don’t play at all'

“What is important is playing for India, and if you are unfit, then don’t play at all. He had a gap of almost seven-eight days after the first Test match but still was not included for the second Test, which was not acceptable. Maybe it was acceptable for Agarkar and Gambhir,” Vengsarkar told Revsportz.

“I’m not in favour of bowlers picking and choosing Test matches. If you’re fit and available, you should play all the matches for your country. Bumrah is a world-class bowler, and he can win matches for India. But once you’re on tour, you need to play every match. There’s no question of selecting matches based on personal preference,” he added.

We don't know how to handle fast bowlers and Vengserkar is no different in his mentality.

And not like Bumrah is underperforming whenever he is playing, he is still the MVP every time he takes the field.

Messi doesn't play for Argentina these days, also plays in the inferior MLS in USA, still will be first name come the 2026 WC. At his age, he is protecting his body and will go full tilt only in the WC, not even Copa America. Arg fans are fine with that. That is because that country has a sporting culture.....Indians lack that, they treat pro sports like some 9-5 job.

Nothing wrong in what Vengsarkar has said, how is Bumrah so certain he will remain injury free if he picks and chooses the tests.

If he hasd played  first three tests and then he felt tired , he should not play last two. They were not back to back tests either. Lot of gap was in between tests.

Abusing Vengsarkar is ridiculous. As I said many times days of Bumrah being a factor in India winning in SENA are over .

Irrespective of Bumrah is fit or not you have to roate your bowlers adequately. India has played too many matches in a short span since october, last year. He is not like Rohit sharma who is scared of foreign tours and sitting out or taking "family break" "Maternity break" even though fully fit for an important series.

None of these @sshats had the balls to say anything when Kohli and Rohit skipped series, and picked and chose when they would play. In fact they skipped warm up games despite not playing the previous series and coming back from their long vacations.

Bumrah has a genuine reason not to play all the matches to protect his body but likes of Kohli and Rohit had none! Yet likes of Vengsarkar, Gavaskar didn't utter a word, forget about criticizing them!

How hard is it for him to understand that it was not about the gap between the 1st and 2nd test, but the gap between the 2nd and the 3rd. Given his injury concern, TM decided to play him only for one of the two games, and they decided to go with Lord's.

Same thing will happen next. He will likely play the 4th test, but sit out for the 5th

This. Deniis Lillee, Imran Khan, Brett Lee, Hadlee all picked tests, venues and extended careers.  Why not extend the same logic to Bumrah? Vengsarkar is clueless how taxing fast bowling is. Srinath huffed and puffed to make it to 10 years .. Kapil Dev could play for long as he turned it a low medium fast after his knee surgery

Yeah, best is run him to the ground like what Rohit did to him in Sydney.

The * are you talking about? He ran him into ground back at home & the 4 tests before Sydney! Sydney was the shortest test that series IIRC.

Unlike you I don't have opportunistic dementia old man. I have been highly critical of BRat since forever, even during his golden run in 2018 - I constantly pointed out how we'd skip key practice games in SA, due to his wedding, then Eng as well. He also threw in an in form KL/Rahane out of the team for no reason to bring in thigh slapper(opener) & RGS in the middle order for no *ing reason with disastrous consequences! You don't remember that, or any of the dumb*s here? I said back then as well that having (job)security around your position was critical to good/consistent performances. That *er literally destroyed our middle order which was doing fairly well in 2016-17 albeit at home.

RGS was no better and I was never a fan of this playing on "raging turners" approach at home, unlike half the sub 20 hormonal bottle jobs here.
