“Alas, had we bowled on such wickets”

Harbhajan Singh believes that Ashwin gets a “lot of favour” from the pitch curators, something which he did not receive in his prime. The Turbanator also stressed on the importance of maintaining the balance between the bat and the ball, and said that conditions should never be the deciding factor.

Lol, some of the wickets he bowled on were extremely conducive to spin and bounce. The guy got a ton of attitude after being successful and that resulted in his downfall. He took his place in the team for granted

Also he was amazing till he was support bowler to Kumble. As soon as he became the lead spinner, his performance declined

Didnt bhajji get to bowl on same wkts against Eng, aus, SL, Bang

The diff in their bowling was evident in Bang, where ashwin was decieving batsman and bhajji got all thrown away wkts from batsman

Never saw Kumble n laxman whine when they were dropped or someone else was doing better.

We used to have a lot of pattas too. Remember NZ series in 2010. He himself had scored two 100s in that series if I remember correctly. We would rarely have result in all matches of a test series due such pitches but now we are seeing more result oriented pitches. Aus 2008 series two tests were drawn. same year against England 2 test series, result only in 1 test.

True- we had less result oriented pitches and more draw-friendly wicket in the mid 2000s-2013 or so.
But I think Harby was not as clever a bowler as Ashwin. He was also, rarely an aggressive bowler if he wasn't on top. Ie, if you beat on him early, he gave up trying to do anything but bowl a consistent 4th-5th stump line and try to choke the batsman into mistakes. Ashwin I think is on par with Harby in terms of control, but he is a more aggressive bowler: has more variations in his normal style and he has become more judicious with using them.

Ashwin and bhajji 's bowling has moved in opposite directions.

Ashwin has worked so hard to move on to become the best bowler in the country. That is some improvement.I remember a time when he had gone wicket less for so many matches that getting a wkt was a milestone .Look at him now! What an improvement .

Bhajji has not done shit to improve. His idea of working hard is giving self praising interviews.

Have we seen Bhajji struggling on spin friendly tracks. Most of the time whenever I saw Bhajji bowling on turners, he was able to do well. Not on top comment was used by commentators in matches when he used to bowl on flat tracks.

but he would always do well on turning tracks during his prime. I dont think Ashwin as a bowler is significantly better than Bhajji or Bhajji was better than Ashwin. Both for me are pitch-dependent bowlers. Ashwin's struggle on flatter tracks is also well known.

To an extent i would agree with above....when he was at his prime...(pre 2010), some of the wickets were flat and he did pretty well on those tracks.....after 2010, he became shadow of himself and he was never the same and doosra saga didn't helped his cause either

Towards the end of his career, yes he dd struggle even on spinning wickets. His main weapon as bounce anyways. Check the links above where Yuvi was out performing him

Even in home matches, he was not as devastating as Ashwin has been. Difference between the two is that Ashwin is a thinking bowler, who improves as he learns from mistakes. He is a vastly improved bowler from the time he started playing for India. Bhajji hit his peak early in his career and gradually just kept tapering off. There was no marked improvement in his bowling.

We didn't have such pitches when bhajji played.
