Open with Rohit Sharma in tests and see how it goes

Recommended Posts

Rohit Sharma's career took a total U-turn in ODIs after he started opening. So it may worth a try in test cricket as well. He is a total failure in the middle order but a shot at opening may rejuvenate his test career. With Lokesh Rahul not in form, I would open with Shaw and Rohit for 1st 2 tests at-least and see how it goes.

There is one more thing when there is flat pitch he or any #6 won't get chance to score hundred cause team would be 550-5 and would want quick 40-50 runs from them to declare. On green pitch where other batsman fails you expect #6 batsman to handle such pressure and bat with tail isn't easy for test cricket. This is reason players like gilly, vvs are bigger match winner for me.

White ball cricket is different to what we see in tests,

Openers have a job to see off the new ball, whatever little movement is there Bowlers try to use it to their advantage,Rohit is a monster in white ball cricket but becomes a sheep whenever the ball deviates even by a margin of 1mm,one can argue who is not?

If rohit has to play ,he should/ rather say TM should stay away from making Rohit open the innings

Sehwag was a diff beast, rohit n sehwag are not at all similar players

These sharmas needs time to settle in any format. Ishant sharma took decade now rohit will make mark as well.

so your saying if we persist with Rohit Sharama he could potentially be an Ishant Shrama level player in a decade ? you really overrating him here .

Wow when will this fascination end. Rohit is useless test player along with Dhawan. They both cannot even survive basic seam and swing. When it did not swing our great guy Dhawan was searching for nonexistent swing in last two tours and getting out to straight balls.

Jokes apart. Rohits ideal slot is no.6 where he can play those magical knocks with the tail where he can just hit those 6s and work shepherding  the tail/lower middle order or do a Gilchrist where he can take the set game totally out of the opponents reach. Opening in ODIs will give him the experience of the 2nd new ball as well.

We have tinkered his position for too long. No.5 is not his slot.

Toughest place to bat in test matches is opening

Easiest place to bat in ODI's is opening

You can't compare the two. That is why guys like Sehwag and Dravid are rated high in my book for test matches

but Sehwag was SC bully and averages 34 in SENA

I believe he should be given a chance - a final chance because he is in form of his life.Last chance for rahul first test.If he fails try sharma.Vijay is washed up ttf.

In the long term if rahul doesnt return to form, sharma fails ,we should go mayank.

Prithvi shaw has one end locked in.

He will talk about all his sixes and double centuries in ODIs or the one good home series he had against WI way back when Sachin retired.

Can you read this again and tell me how surreal

this sounds. “All those double centuries”

I am not a big fan of Rohit the test player but when you have a player or his stature, you need to make the best of his abilities.
