The sad thing is that simply because he was good enough to play the last 10 years of his career at about 60% of his peak - the younger ones will wrongly assume that post-decline version as what Tendy was. Which is their unfortunate loss. Tendulkar pre-tennis elbow injury was freakishly good. Most who didn't live through that era won't realize how good he was. vvvslaxman
No way he would have been introduced in this era. This is a highly commercial era. Ironically Mascarenhas-Tendulkar partnership proved how much money is at stake. Players started prolonging their career as much as possible so that they can milk as much as possible. Even Tendulkar was against introducing players at such a young age. Introduction of youngsters and them clicking means your career will be under risk. I certainly believe this happens in all kind of formats. First class, IPL, syed mustaq ali,, player suppression as there is so much at stake now. velu and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment
The Outsider
Let someone score a hundred in Ranji, Deodhar, Duleep, and Irani Trophy on debut, and be comfortably play the best prevailing fast bowler from India at nets, before rushing to judgements. In the process, top scoring for the best Ranji side in history. Number, GoldenSun and raki05 3 Link to comment

rtmohanlal
a youngster starting from the age of 16y & 212days can be termed lucky if he is proven mediocre or failure till he turns an adult(21 years of age) and after that 'starts performing brilliantly and eventually turning into a great player' or 'still keeps on remaining mediocre or failure and eventually gets dropped'. If he turns into a great player, he has been lucky because of having given so many chances from an early age to establish himself until he starts turning it on. Even if he is dropped after 21 years because of being a proven failure he is lucky because his selection at such a tender age itself was undeserving. But with Tendulkar, from 16y 212d to 23 y he surpassed all the established matured adult batsmen in the Indian team of those times with his brilliant performance. Even batsmen like Sidhu,Vengsarkar,Asharuddin,Manjrekar ,Sastri ,Sriikanth etc etc surrendered before this genius teenager let alone other talented youngsters in this period . So much so for Tendulkar being lucky to be selected at such a young age!!!!!!! Such dumb foolish sense less base less morons who are the reasons for these type of threads getting started should check and analyse such basic data by at least a little before turning into arguments rather than causing others to loss their valuable efforts and time there by irritating others to no ends. He wont find a place in Indian team at least at the age of 16. he will have to play FC cricket and A tours and it will take him at least 2-3 years and only then selector will think about picking him. There will still have thoughts he is just 19, too early for him to be picked for tests. Lets see him in T20 first. Edited August 8, 2018 by rkt.india Switchblade 1 Link to comment
Temujin Khaghan
A 23 year old SRT is a lower order hitter, a superb catcher at slips, brilliant (Ravi jadeja level) bullet arm from the deep and a wicket taking courageous spin bowler. Meaning he is PURE GOLD. Edited August 8, 2018 by Temujin Khaghan tweaker and raki05 1 1 Link to comment
Temujin Khaghan
A 23 year old SRT in this team would have become a much better bowler than he became in the 90s because of the demand for the 5th bowler. If a 23 year old SRT debuted now, he would have 1) picked 400 wickets over the next 200 matches 2) become the regular first slip for fast bowlers because of the bankruptcy for a legit slipper in this team. 3) would have scored a lot more runs on these flat tracks, small grounds with big bats (he always had them though). I reckon he would have averaged more than Steve Smith easily. raki05 and tweaker 2 Link to comment

Even in India, we don't prepare flat pitches any more in test matches. Regarding grounds, it is not like he played in 1970s. he played on these same grounds players now are playing. Regarding slip, he barely did slip catching in his career. Debuting at 23, he could not have played 200 matches anyhow. In fact, he would not have bowled at all if you look at the current trend of Indian batsmen not bowling. Edited August 8, 2018 by rkt.india Link to comment

Shaw is the closest to SRT in 30 years. The only reason why he isn't debuted at intl is the bonehead selection committee which has degraded India to a b grade batting side despite having a large batting talent pool. Link to comment

Leaving aside non-cricketing reasons, was young SRT good enough to find a place in this batting line up? Teen SRT? This was SRT at age of 19. We will have to see everything in the current scenario. This is the T20 era. If he was born and brought up playing T20 cricket, who knows what kind of technique he had. He might have been labeled a T20 leg side hack if he had batted too fast or hit a few sixes on spinners like he did to Qadir or he might have been given debut in T20 Internationals where if he had failed to make any impression would have been sent back to domestic cricket after 2 games and then A tours and rinse and repeat. If he did well there and picked for test cricket, he would be benched for a more experienced player the whole series and then when he played Ranji match after a long break sitting on the bench on an overseas tour and failed in that game due to rustiness, we would have a thread on ICF like ,"Why was this guy picked? He cant even score in Ranji against mediocre Saurashtra bowlers. So, there are too many constraints and things that have changed from 1989. Switchblade 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
the apt statement w.r.t this matter is 'a promising highly talented youngster(if any such at the least some what closer to Sachin exists) might be unlucky so that he is denied his early chances' rather than 'SRT was lucky to get his earlier chances'.
