Rishabh Pant bags INR 5 crore category A central contract !!!

Rishabh Pant's exploits in international cricket since his Test debut in England last year have given him a lucrative entrance into BCCI's annual retainers list. Pant, who was not part of the 26-man contracted players list in 2017-18 is understood to have been placed in Category A for the 2018-19 season, which carries a retainer worth INR 5 crore.

 

Category A is the second-most lucrative retainer, one rung below the A+ category, which was introduced last year for players that feature in all three formats. The A+ category, worth INR 7 cr, had five players in the previous contract period, but that count has been brought down to three with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan being left out this season. The three players to retain their spots in the A+ category are captain Virat Kohli, who is ranked No. 1 in Tests and ODIs, Rohit Sharma, who is ranked No. 2 in ODIs, and Jasprit Bumrah, who is ranked the No. 1 bowler in ODIs.

 

Pant, 21, has been one of the most improved players on the Indian circuit across formats and is currently auditioning for India's World Cup squad. Picked in place of Wriddhiman Saha, who was injured through 2018, Pant cracked a century in his third Test on a debut tour of England. More recently, Pant made 159 against Australia during the New Year's Test in Sydney, having taken 11 catches in the series opener in Adelaide, the most by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests.

 

 

Two key players, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, who were suspended by the CoA for their alleged misconduct on a TV chat show, will continue to be part of category B (INR 3 cr.). On Thursday, the CoA had asked Justice DK Jain, newly-appointed BCCI ombudsman, to probe Pandya and Rahul's alleged misconduct. As per the BCCI constitution, the ombudsman is the final authority to adjudicate on such issues.

He has yet to prove himself in ODIs.

He will get there once beard man leaves the scene. He has zero competition for Keeping.  He will play by default.

On what basis does Rahane get a grade A contract. He doesn't play LOIs any more. He place is rickety in Tests too.

Why does Rohit get A+ contract. A+ should be for only players who play all formats. Kohli and Bumrah should be the only guys in it.

Rohit shouldn't be in A+, IMO only those who play tests successfully should be considered at that level..like a couple of (maybe more) best test performers from Pujara, Jadeja, Kuldeep, Ishant, Ashwin, Shami, Pant etc apart from the 2 guns Kohli, Bumrah. Rahane aur Bhuvi ko laat maarke bhagao, C or D contract. Rayudu LOL, BC dosn't deserve free cup of tea, 1 cr mil raha hai . T20 specialists again shouldn't get a contract, abominable format and anyway they have IPL to pay the bills. No thought process behind these decisions, typical BCCI.

IMO Pujara and Shami should have got A+ contracts, no Rohit of course.

Players playing tests get A grade contract.  Nothing to do with him not playing ODIs.  His place is not rickety in tests according to them.

Motivation is in brand value. But KL's brand value is also down.

Pandya should have been in grade A at the least. Because of his off field events, he's in B I guess. Also, Pant should have been in B. Rahane in C, Dhoni in B.

good that he has kept in B, The kind of cloths he wear and flaunt B grade is good for him.
