Shaw’s athletic ability is a concern

Gun batsmen. Absolute Box office but a piss poor athlete.

His running between the wickets is dreadful and is a poor fielder.

Usually Mumbai batsmen even the ones with stocky built like Sunny,Sachin,Rohit are all lightning fast between wickets and safe fielders.

The last Mumbai bat I can think of who was a poor athlete and a poor runner between wickets is Manjrekar.

Cannot ignore this aspect. I love watching him play but he will be left behind the pecking order if he doesn’t pick up in that aspect.

Too good a player to miss out inspite of some technical weaknesses. Needs some kick on the back before he thinks it's normal to remain lethargic and be in the team.

Kid should get fitter as he gets older and has the spotlight on him. Cricket isnt a game where your athleticism can save you if you are crap at the fundamentals and lack talent unlike football. kohli himself was a pale shadow of what he is right now physically at shaws age. As long as he can fix his running between the wickets and his catching he should be gold.

Shaw might have gotten thru the junior ranks with being flashy. But I don't think he will succeed with that technique overseas in test cricket.

I really hope Gill play first test over this guy.Mayank is not looking that great either.

He is no more flashy than say QdK. He is not the tightest player you will see but he can curb his game against the moving ball as showed today. He looked the most assured of all the Indian batters who faced the newish ball.

But his fitness is a concern atm.

He looks naturally slow can't change even if he lose weight much like dubey, kuldeep. Genetically unatheletic

In the 3rd ODI itself, we saw Shaw bat more sensibly.

If he gets to play a few games on the trot, he will work out what is working for him at this level and what is not.

Shaw has the game to be a very very good all-format batsman.

Regarding his fitness ... he is young and is bound to improve his fitness if he gets to play without a break.

I hate Manju a lot with lots of passion but I have watched cricket in early 90's and Sanjay wasn't that poor. I still remember in the 91/92 series in Australia, Sachin and Manju were India's best players in ODI Tri Series and they used to take lots of quick singles challenging the brilliant Aussie fielders. Manju was also a safe catcher and a decent fielder during his younger days. Prithvi on the other hands just looks unfit, Manju wasn't that. Manju wasn't as talented as Prithvi though but again that means that the latter has to work really hard to make sure that does not go to waste.

Manju had a huge run out problem on the same tour IIRC. May be he was not as slow runner as Shaw but he did have a habit of getting runout often in fact in that B & H tri series
