Rishabh Pant: Washington Sundar told me, "Macha, I'll go for the target. You anchor the innings."

Recommended Posts

This was the GOAT debut by an Indian player, period.

Both innings super clutch with the bat, rearguard mission in 1st innings and those 2 overs of intent against Cummins on day 5 which tilted the match firmly in our favor. What this kid did on day 5, many specialist batsmen won't in their full careers. Outbowled Lyon, should have had Smith out 2/2 times if Siraj hadn't dropped that sitter on day 4.

In Gill, Pant and Washi we have 3 amazing youngsters who also happen to be very clutch. Ability-wise Pant, Gill are higher but Washi is more versatile and somehow keeps surprising us, started with that Nidahas 'Player of the Tournament' performance as an 18 yo.

Very true! It would have been a draw or probably worse. Pant would have got out trying for quick runs and the Aussies would have bodylined the tail in a jiffy.

Pant has shown he can hit out without being out, so dont know where Pant failing idea is coming from. You dont need to put down one youngster to praise the other

Sundar has a superb temperament.

I think it's the IPL effect, playing against international teams is not the same thing for these youngsters as it was for previous generations. Imagine previous generations, played only domestic matches and then are on tours facing the fastest and most lethal bowlers on their pitches in front of huge crowds

Nah, Pant would have gone for it later. Pant has said in the interview that draw was never an option for him and he was always only thinking of the win

And he would be out as well..  Or Aussies would have run through our brittle tail..   Repeat of Adelaide 2014 & Wellington 2014.

Cameo was as clutch as they come.  If we had similar one in above games we'd have won those as well.

Didn't mean to put down anyone. If runs dry up at the other end, it puts extra pressure on the set batsman, increasing the chances of him making a fatal mistake. This is true for Pant, Kohli, or whoever the set batsman might be.

Is it just me or does Sundar look like he could be a top 6 batsman in the future? That would lend incredible balance to the XI

Yeah definitely no 6. Come 2027 when most retire this is my batsmen. Good thing most of them can bowl as well

Jaiswal

Gill

Vihari ( Pujaras role)

Pant

Shaw ( hope he gets better)

Sundar

Abhishek Sharma ( clutch player. Need more opportunities)

People also forget this factor. Before India had only a handful of Pacers capable of hitting 140 plus to train against. Post 2010, India have tons of bowlers capable of ramping up the pace to 140 plus to train and practice with. Add the SG ball reversing skills and it sharpens the batsmens potency vs pace.
