With the Punjab heavyweights missing out on the playoff spot last season, the KXIP think tank was expected to release some of their household names prior to the upcoming IPL mini-auction for the new season. As per the latest developments, the Punjab giants will reportedly unveil a new name and logo before the start of the new season. According to Sportskeeda, the Punjab-based franchise will make an announcement before the IPL 2021 auction on February 17th.

Talking about the IPL mini-auction, Kings XI Punjab have enhanced their balance purse to INR 53.2 crore after releasing the likes of Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell on the retention day for IPL season 2021.

While Cottrell was bought for 8.5 crore, KXIP signed Maxwell for 10.75 crore during the previous mega auction of the IPL. Punjab have also released K Gowtham, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Jimmy Neesham, Hardus Viljoen, and Karun Nair ahead of the new season.

"We have retained 16 players out of the 25-member squad that we had last season. So, the plan is to fill those gaps in the coming auction so that we will be a solid team going into the 2021 IPL," KXIP head coach Anil Kumble had said.

Pathetic results. Probably the worst team on basis of performances. Changing name won't solve prevalent issues. Probably the franchisee is just trying to sell same old crap in a new package so that delude Kings 11 fans by giving some false hopes. Marketting gimmick.
