No, because if you survive the morning sessions with a green top the pitch gets better

Who said that and when one team can score 329 and be 54/1 there is nothing wrong with the pitch.
Fast bowlers also taken wickets on this pitch.

What's exactly so shocking about the pitch?  Genuine question.

This is a dust Bowl day 4/5 pitch on day 1 of the Test Match. It was Rohit's innings which was the difference between the two sides, take out his 161 and we barely have any lead. Any pitch which crumbles right from the start of the test match will raise eyebrows and will call for criticism.

What's the problem with ball turning from day 1? Doesn't it make the toss less crucial?

Surely it's miles better than the previous match pitch where the wicket was completely flat for first 2 days then changed drastically thus making the toss extremely vital.

Also, why don't green wickets raise similar eyebrows? Matches regularly get ended within 3 days on them too. Plus there is an actual risk of batsmen getting injured. Why aren't they called 'bad'?

Whinging about the pitch is without merit, but they have every right to about umpiring. Who are these jokers? Aren’t there experienced FC umpires? It is amazing that India does not have world class umpires. The umpiring in Aus are generally very good. If you are sucking even with 3 reviews, then you are group of lousy umpires.

I have no problem if the balls turns, but every time the ball lands on the pitch there's a puff of dust, which shows that this pitch was ill prepared. The top of the pitch started crumbling from day one. Now thats the problem. Anyways you can keep finding excuses to suit your narrative, And how many Indian players have got injured playing on Green tops in the last decade ?

Let's get one thing right. England picked the wrong 11. India did the same mistake in the first game when they picked nadeem over axar.  English spinners haven't done well like the indian ones irrespective of how helpful the pitch is. If you are whining about the pitch why haven't your bowlers used the conditions to dismiss India cheaply.

Moeen Ali shouldn't have played instead of Bess. Rohit Sharma just milked him in the 1st innings.

Not sure what is the rationale behind picking Broad over Anderson(who had a good 1st game, btw) when he's not even going to bowl a few overs.

Leach is overworked.

Anderson was rested because he can't sustain his speed and form for more than one test without a break. It was a forced move.

another thing w/ green pitches is that they can be prepared almost anywhere and used in many key test playing nations so can be standardized ... rank turners are usually found in Ind and SL, along w/ UAE

ideally, there should be sporting pitches

Axar was injured so they could not pick him for first test.

This pitch was fairer to both teams as it took toss out of the equation. First test winning the toss was most important thing.Still I feel if Axar/jadeja had played they would not have scored 578. Another reprieve due to injury to Axar.

I think the 286 in innings 3 shut up the crumbling pitch brigade.

Even England appear to be well played to cross 134 from the first innings

It's the same as every Aussie pitch. survive 30 overs and once ball gets flat, it's easy to smash.

Ok so india should prepare pitches how colony guide us....sporting pitches my food these english laid out such green pitches at lord's that it was difficult to differentiate between outfield and pitch next come ashes with hazzle , Cummins and Starc loading suddenly all grass gone magically . When Indian batsmen failed on those pitches our so called experts here along with their English masters bash our batsmen and not the pitch.  It's same story in NZ and SA as well.
