SK_IH Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 Imagine if England had lost the toss, the clamour would have reached another level
Gollum Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Doubt curators/TM would have gone full retard without the sword of WTC qualification hanging over our necks. Here's hoping this is a one-off. Next series please can we go back to the 2016-19 type pitches. cowboysfan, bowl_out and Sandeep99 3

Stan AF Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 There's no point in playing more than 4-5 overs when session starts. Finish before 8 pm ideal.

Im just getting a feeling that its coming to a point for kohlu when every captain becomes a bit more desperate for wins and start going extreme ways. Dhoni also wanted some turners towards end of his captaincy SK_IH and nevada 2

After the first test, the captain & TM have decided for result oriented wickets which are challenging from day 1. Also, I think this is the inherent nature of this pitch. I heard even pitches for domestic T20s were ordinary. I see absolutely no wrong in these kinds of pitches. Trust me this pitch's quality or lack of has been excerbated by two ordinary batting lineups. Look at the shots of Bairstow, Rohit, Rahane, Stokes etc The batting is atrocious but the pitch is not properly made as well. We can't deny one on pretext of highlighting the other. Does anyone truly believe that this pitch will allow cricket for 4 days , leave alone the 5th day. A pitch where the bowling mark erodes the surface and create dunks on second session of day 1 definitely should raise serious questions..
putrevus Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) I did not watch Indian first innings batting today but Root picking up five wickets means very bad batting by Indian batsmen. Edited February 25, 2021 by putrevus TheWall 1

This was probably an extreme over-precaution in ensuring that the pitch didn't aid their seam/swing bowling - I have seen such p[itches in the [past but never where the groundmen had to delicately balance so many aspects of the game! In that sense his job was 4x more difficult than you image it'd been otherwise, just imagine a little bit of live grass on this deck & Eng ripping through our chumps. Kohli would've eaten that guy alive
putrevus Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Did Bhajji and Kumble play on as many turners as Ashwin played in his career?

Let me put it this way the pitch ain't that bad as the scores reflect. I remember a pitch in Kanpur against SA in 2008 which was rated as poor (& it was under prepared), where batting in comparison to the **** show we saw in this match was of different level. This looks relatively easier than that turner but batsman had no resort here apart from sweeps or lunging forward. sarchasm, cowboysfan and Laaloo 3

Kumble yes, 90s was infamous for our turners. Almost all matches produced results. Bhajji not so much, I can count maybe 4 genuine rank turners in his career, with Ashwin I'd say 6 and that number is likely to shoot up in his remaining career. But OTOH offies now can't bowl doosra. putrevus Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Sword of WTC finals was hanging on their heads. If they had already qualified for it. We might have seen lot better pitches.

Yeah it wasn't that bad, the difference in red soil pitches like Mumbai (2004) or Nagpur (2015) is that the ball zips through & has a lot more pace on it. The turn is big, sometimes explosive & really quick. Black soil or really any other soil doesn't afford that kind of pace. SK_IH 1
