rangeelaraja Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) A WC title is too alluring - that too when its at home. But as a purist - I would prefer a test series win in England, if only one is possible. Edited March 6, 2021 by rangeelaraja Under_Score 1
express bowling Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) How many people remember who won the penultimate World T20 ? I don't. But I remember all our test series victories away from home and all the 50 over World Cups. T20 matters only in the IPL. Remember the IPL winners of every year I will take a test series victory in SENA any day over everything except the 50 over World Cup. Vilander Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Cricket World Cup is played in 50 over format. Test Cricket is ultimate form of cricket. T20 is very interesting to watch in IPL, BBL,CPL etc..hit and giggles. express bowling 1
Suhaan Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 To me icc trophies matter most,in wc year i would want us to win express bowling and kohli 1 1

I would almost (but not really) take victory in England tests over WC too since we won in 2011 (whereas we last won in eng only in 2007). every time we go there, we do miserably in terms of results (even if we do put up some fight, the results always look bad). I'd give a lot to see those whingy Pommies eat their words. Edited March 5, 2021 by Vijy GoldenSun 1
zen Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 While I like tests (we play SENA teams a lot now another series is always around the corner), I have gone w/ the T20 WC at home ... the atmosphere would be electric if Ind is in the final
Jay Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Test series all day. Everyday. express bowling, Lone Wolf and Vijy 3

Stan AF Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 I want to win both. But if I have to pick only one, it would be the T20 WC but we'll have very tough competition there.

Cricketics Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Don’t like these comparisons. Want to win them all. When Teats are happening, fans are in test mode and when t20 or 50 overs are happening we have switched onto that mode. Just win all of them.
Norman Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 T20 world cup...There's just something else that comes with winning a world title that doesn't in a bilateral win.
AuxiliA Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) World Cup > Bilaterals anyday Just ask yourself, what was more special. 2007 T20 WC or tour of England 2007? Edited March 6, 2021 by AuxiliA

It's not a "World Cup" - it's also a single game & NZ will already get a head start, can't see myself being too enthused by competing against such an overrated side in their familiar conditions (unfair to India btw) so basically if India wins it'll be the best win since Gabba 2021

But yeah Gabba would be more special than a potential WTC F victory.
Gollum Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) For me the 5 test series win in England, easy-peasy. 1. Against our bogey team, after the way they have tormented us in their backyard since 2011 want badla. 2. Winning in Eng followed by a historic 1st series win in RSA (likely) later this year will do wonders for the legacy of this test side. May not be ATG WI/Aus level but clear 3rd best if we manage to win in Eng. Great win in Aus, if we lose in Eng again the (legit) criticism that we suck when there is lateral movement will be solidified. Even if we win the T20 WC no chance of a legacy there, we simply don't have the personnel/mindset to be a dominant white ball side over an extended period of time. Much better chance in the oldest format. 3. Test>>ODI>>>>>>>T20. Analogy time, all chess enthusiasts know the names of the 16 world champs, lesser number can recollect the rapid champions, when it comes to blitz even blitz champions won't remember who won 3 editions on either side of their win. I made a thread in the IPL subforum asking members to rank the IPL winning sides, surprise surprise hardcore IPL fans didn't seem to remember who won which edition, against whom, forget comparing strengths/flaws of past winners. Wait for a few more T20 WC editions, even T20I fans here will mix up winners of 2010 and 2014 WT20 editions despite following those tourneys live and in close detail, dissecting/analyzing those matches here on ICF. 4. Impossible to fluke a test series win especially one that is 5 tests long. Luck plays a huge role in white ball ICC events, latest example being the 2019 final...before that 2017 CT was a fluke win for Pak. Many recent winners weren't the best sides in the tournament....doesn't sit well with me. WI failed in 1983, 87, 92, to an extent even 96 was a choke....does it reflect well on the capability of that legendary cricket team? Few other reasons but don't want to type a longer essay than I already have . These 4 will suffice, at least for me. Edited March 6, 2021 by Gollum
