May not be a sacrifice. It may just be a symbolic gesture. That he goes home last after his entire team does. A friend of mine set up a bakery a few years ago. On one of those all paralysing rain days ( I think a rail over-bridge collapsed on that day and trains were not functioning) she had her car/driver drop each of her three employees home before the car took her home late at night. I would buy this point if his parents were home and asymptomatic. They are in a hospital. Its not like he can go to a covid ward.
