At this level these players don't need coaching. Man-management is what matters, keeping them motivated and organizing the playing order/selection. Ravi shastri in Kohli's absence has a great track record. We have statistically done very well.

This.  It was proven in Australia when VK returned.  Shastri is an under-rated man-manager, IMO.  His over-the-top positivity gives the team confidence when they are down.  He never berated players in public (he did mention that Pant and Shaw needed to up their fitness ante, but otherwise there was never anything negative).  He always talked up the team even when they were struggling.  Sometimes fans didn't like that, but that is what a leader does - shield your team from public criticism.  I think the players trusted him.  There were never any reports of him abusing players in the dressing room or not getting along with anyone.  I think the whole bewda angle was a smoke-screen.

Agreed here.  Rahane's captaincy and calm management of the team was instrumental in the legendary win.

You can only undo so much of the damage that is caused in other ways.  In cricket, captain is all-powerful.  Coach can only suggest, but in the end, captain takes the call.  Maybe Rahane took all of RJS' suggestions and it panned out.

so basically Kohli isn't listening to him,then there isnt much for Shastri or anyone to do.

Who knows?  One can only speculate on the dynamic there.  Just the fact that, together, Shastri and Rahane brought the team to perform so well makes me think - at the very least - he is not an impediment to team success.  At best, he has some really good qualities that a sensible captain can leverage.

True, but that's not the way the power-structure is set up in international cricket.  Especially in team selection and on-field decisions, it's all captaincy. 

 

What we really need is for someone on the board to put Kohli on a tight leash.

About time. The entire setup needs to change. 

 

After nearly 6 years of Indian coaches, maybe we should try a foreign coach this time, someone who is a hard task master. Cannot have a chilled out 'father figure' to take Rahul, Pant, Shaw, Gill, Iyer, Paddikal, Tyagi, Prasidh, Mavi, Chahar, Bishnoi to the next level in the next 18-24 months.

Ravi is about to do then BCCI should hire a real coach now. Like Gary kristen type coach who actually win us some ICC trophies with brain dead captain Kohli. Rahul Dravid can go same route as Kumble. We can't waste another 2 years and couple of more trohpies to figure out that.
