Shastri was never the problem. Honestly this indian side is way too good in general and don't require a coach. They need a good captain. We don't have that with kohli.

Change has to start from somewhere .  This is the first right step in the scheme of things to follow . May take another year or 2 for the rest.

 Plus needs technical input so that apparent weakness being addressed & a counter plan is implemented even during a tour . While bowling has improved in recent years , we see same issues with batsmen for years now.

Shastri is a better coach than most people think. He's an excellent man manager. Never before we had so many debutants making such impact. Our bowling has improved by leaps under him. 

 

People would have been calling him our GOAT coach had the team managed to win just a few of those knockouts. 

 

Kohli and other inept seniors are the bigger problem. On our SEN tours under Shastri, Kohli won just 1 out of 11 tosses! The batsmen who scored 100s for fun couldn't even make 30 crucial runs in the WC SF. They couldn't survive 1.5 sessions to draw the WTC F. Even just before Shastri, the same team lost to a highly mediocre team by 180 *ing runs in an ICC final.

Its not that Ravi did not get enough time . I think he may be the longest coach of india team . 

Everything has a shelf life and has to come to an end and more than that we need an independent coach and not just yes man. 

If Kumble episode start getting repeated with new coach , fallout of that is very certain  . It will not be the coach who will on chopping block.

I genuinely hope they get Punter somehow.  Shastri came into the set up in 2014 & since then the drought for ICC trophies started. 

I know it isn't his entire fault but change gotta start somewhere. 

A Chokli & Yes man will not bring us sliverware. 

That being said Shastri's biggest legacy will be Australia 2021.  Stuff of legends.

If Kohli steps down as captain and Shastri continues as coach, we will get good results.

 

We saw that in Australia.

 

Shastri-Arun combo has really improved our bowling in tests. (  Not in LOIs where trundlers are picked )
