Kohli and his captaincy record in SENA

All this when we have the greatest bowling arsenal in our test history.

Sure he has a great record at home but did we even need a captain when we had Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami, Umesh to overwhelm every single opponent in the last 5 years? Most of the tough runs on rank turners were scored by Pujara, KLR (Aus 2017), Rohit, Vijay, heck even Rahane in 2017 Bengaluru.

On normal Indian tracks Karun Nair scores 300, Mayank scores 200s for fun, bring in Shaw/SKY/Vihari/Iyer and they too will do well, so what is the extra that Kohli brings to our team?

Also team loses its clutchness under skipper Kohli. Possible wins converted to losses, straightforward draws converted to losses (most brutal example being the WTC F).

Under a different skipper we managed to draw in Sydney with a battered/injured duo holding on for almost 45 overs against Cummins/Hazlewood/Starc/Lyon, one of if not the the finest rearguards in our test history. No way we would have displayed such grit/courage under skipper Kohli.

Yesterday was another golden opportunity to conjure a draw from a dire situation. We simply collapsed.

Rat should belong in the 80s and 90s. except that our batting even back then was better than today

Mukul Kesavan is an insufferable sook in general, but good to see some heat on skipper Kohli's decision making. Deserves more criticism.

Kohli will go to any extent to prove that his template was right all along, even if it means another overseas series defeat.

all about the template, all about the process, yadda yadda.... I wish we had a captain who would say: it's all about the winning, doesn't matter if it comes in an ugly manner, doesn't matter if it comes from grinding and unattractive cricket, the main objective is to win and then win some more.

The thing in his favour has been Dhoni the test captain post 2011 with a horrendous record, so he gets the pass most of the times. He himself though has been a complete fraud as a test captain & gets condoned on the pretext of being a aggressive captain. No tactical nous, no team building skills, just someone whose definition of aggressive captaincy is fist pumps & monkey jumps, which keeps us engaged but are no great leadership qualities. The success he has enjoyed as a captain is predicated on a team made & nurtured by Dhoni.

Secondly, the so called champion of fast bowler is still backing the likes of Ishant & has no real foresight to build a new crop of fast bowlers, which is a real test for a captain known to support fast bowlers.

Dravid has been India's best test captain in the last 30 years or so, Kohli however can be rated as the worst Indian captain in that period.

You are posting this thread like we were winning series after series under other captains.

As usual the nagging Nancy comment.

Were we this bad? Look at the 7-8 year period prior to 2014-15. Start from 2006 SA tour

2006: in SA, lost 1-2, a very close series

2007: Eng, won 1-0, dominant performance

2007-08: Aus lost 1-2, but for Bucknor would have won

2009: in NZ, won 1-0

2010-11: in SA, drew 1-1

2011: in Eng lost 0-4

2011-12: in Aus lost 0-4

2013: in SA lost 0-1

2013-14: in NZ lost 0-1, (McCullum)

2014 in Eng: Lost 1-2l3

6 wins and 17 losses (record tarred by the two shameful whitewashes in Eng and Australia)

We won 2 series in England and NZ, drew in SA, should have won in Aus but for Bucknor. There were two blots in the aftermath of the 2011 WC victory in Eng and Aus.

Add that in this period we won a T20 WC and a Champions Trophy in SENA.

Despite all this, we had 3 captains in this period - Dravid, Kumble and Dhoni. And four coaches - Greg Chappel (in SA), Rajput+Prasad combo for 6 months after 2007 WC (in Eng), Kirsten from 2008-11, Duncan Fletcher (2011-14).

Compare it to last 6-7 years. Same captain and Shastri as team director/ head coach since 2014 on all SENA tours (Kumble never toured SENA). Zero trophies and ZERO accountability

Its no longer about record for me. Had he come out and spoke like root did in 2nd test I would have been behind him. Instead what does Kohli do ? he came out insulted intelligence of everyone who follows Indian cricket, blamed his bowler, blames everyone around him.

He has his head so far up his A-- that all he sees around him is sh!t, not realizing its his own Shi!t. Such a loser and incompetent captain.

Aus 2014-15: lost Adelaide test, drew in SCG

RSA 2017-18: lost 1-2

Eng 2018: lost 1-4

Aus 2018-19: won 2-1 against weak Aus

NZ 2020: lost 0-2

Aus 2020-21: 36 all out and back home

WTC F: meek surrender despite 2.5 days rain

Eng 2021: won 1, lost 1, lucky escape in T1

Apart from the 2018-19 Aus series win (even there he managed to lose a test :hysterical:), his record reads won 3, lost 12, drew 2. And half the losses weren't close, since 2020 all the losses have been massacres...2 in NZ, Adelaide D/N, WTC F, Headingley.

First thing Shastri did after the historic BG win this year was give all credit to Kohli, saying this was Kohli's team, vision, inspiration, strategy, tactics yada yada. When the serial loser had literally nothing to do with the series win.

Why isn't his overseas captaincy record called out?

So many blunders, starting from team selection and toss decision.

I know u guys dont like vikrant gupta and those sport tak namoonas, but yesterday I was watching their show, and he did point out how Shastri and others went gaga over Kohli when the young team won in Australia without Kohli..atleast people are calling out his PR

Ok so we should keep loosing just because we lost in the past. Does any past captain have this kind of bowling attack.

So Rahane’s second or third eleven defeats full strength Australia team in Australia after Kohli’s eleven left them with 0-1 deficit and 36 all out.

Now Kohli and boys with full strength playing against English side with 39 year old Anderson and Root combined with all newbies is blown to pieces. All the MC BC of second test against this hapless England side means nothing based on evidence of what we have seen.

The management is ill equipped and not qualified to take Indian team to next level. Question now is just this. How many more defeats are we willing to take to arrive at consensus.
