Btw, crossed over to your side of the border this past week for a day - visiting Niagara dhaam, first time for my 5 year old, met up some of wifey's Toronto based friends. Is Niagara some sort of poor man's Vegas type destination for the local canadians? Niagara is less than 2 hours from Toronto so ppl can take a day trip there. Though it has casinos, it is not necessarily a LV type of destination but an area to enjoy natural beauty, do some activities including trails and scenic drives, wines, there is an outlet mall as well, etc. Many times ppl just drive to see the falls. Canadian side is more developed than the US one so folks from US are likely to cross the border (though do not know the procedures during the COVID era - was it challenging?) … Other nearby spot (less than 2 hrs of driving) from Toronto is Blue Mountain to the North.

Vaccinated folks (and unvaccinated accompanying minors) are required to take a molecular (PCR) test within the 72 hours before attempting to enter Canada via land, and show proof of vaccination. Apart from that, it was a breeze.

Yeah I get that, but with the difficulty crossing the border, most of the (sparse) crowd on the CND side was local I believe, silver lining of the covid chaos was that there was zero, and I mean zero wait for the usual Niagara activities. It helped that it was a weekday afternoon, but even a jaded cynic like me, who's been to Niagara way too many times for his liking, ended up enjoying it, and not just because I was enjoying my daughter seeing it for the first time. Don't mean to hijack goosy's excellent thread anyway, I can gush about my little vacay trip elsewhere if folks care to know - finger lakes area and Ithaca, NY etc are very underrated, especially if you like hiking and the outdoors. maniac 1
