England stand to lose 40 million pounds for cancelled test

The row over forfeiture or cancellation has huge ramifications for the ECB. If the match was forfeited by India then the ECB are covered by insurance for losses of around £40m, in the same way they would be if the game was forfeited for the death of a monarch or a terrorist attack.

But if the match was cancelled by Covid, the ECB are not covered by insurance leaving them with a huge hole (sic) in their finances, a year after losing £16m.

The ECB are furious that India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri, attended a book launch in London last week along with 150 members of the public. He was the first member of the India party to test positive. The book launch had not been cleared by the ECB’s covid compliance department.

The BCCI are refusing at this stage to forfeit the match and accept liability. It would mean the series is a 2-2 draw.

The matter could end up being resolved by the International Cricket Council’ dispute resolution committee.

Would be quite a logistical nightmare to hold the test next year..

NZ plays in June & early July India arrives & late July SA arrives for White ball & test matches..  There is few day Gap in August before 1st test vs SA & that might be only window possible assuming India is free.

I think in the end series would be made 2-2 thanks to forefeit in front of ICC Committee..   ECB gets the insurance money from BCCI.

What a shtshow.  They could have launched that damn book after winning the series. Even invite English players to the launch if needed. What is the hurry to do it in the middle of the series

Any info on the book's title? Must be one hell of a book for both Shashtri and Kohli to attend its launch!

ECB being clever about this cancellation. They have left it to ICC - Chris Broad - who'll decide whether this series counts as a draw with 2-2 result for WTC purposes. And that the rescheduled match will be a standalone affair. Basically BCCI will get shafted if it's up to Broad senior to decide the fate.

If Chris Broad comes up with an adverse ruling and declares it a forfeiture, then BCCI should tell ECB to forget about rescheduling the match. And downgrade future series against ENG to a 3 match affair. That'll be enough.

Broad is an asswhole. He fined Rahul 15% of his match fee for showing dissent. Also not sure it's logical to have an Englishman referee a contest involving England!

Not getting great reviews:

I am afraid there is nothing new in the content that is not already available on the media. I was expecting some personal anecdotes of some legendary cricketers but there is hardly anything for a diehard cricket fan. Pedestrian stuff.

Home officials due to Covid situation.

Srinath was the referee for the series in India along with Indian umpires and other officials.

A forfeit is insured but covid related cancellation is not covered

Sounds like ECB should have mandated bio bubbles in that case.

If ICC enforces a forfeit then cancel all series with Poms for the next two years and replace them with WI / SA / SL.  Helps some struggling boards and will make ECB’s £40MM loss look like spare change.
