The over-dependence on Hardik Pandya the allrounder has been a rude lesson for the selectors. Indian cricket has failed to groom a backup seam-bowling allrounder and Hardik has been an automatic choice despite the uncertainties around his bowling availability. The lack of a sixth bowling option has disrupted the team's balance.

 

"The selectors are going to send out a message to top order batters that they need to bowl. It's a culture that has gone missing from Indian cricket. Venkatesh Iyer is a good prospect. The likes of Prithvi Shaw will be encouraged to bowl more," a source said.

 

It is likely that the board will look into Hardik's case more seriously. "His injury management is under the scanner. It needs to be seen how strong his future is as a bowling allrounder. He will be used accordingly," the source added.

They are not expecting from the current top order batsmen,at no point these 33+ batsmen will suddenly start bowling,its the way forward the upcoming replacements will be groomed as such means they are planning for future

One dimensional hacks have to be extraordinary .  Otherwise they have to be good in more than one department. ABDV for all his batting ability could keep wickets.  Field brilliantly.  JOe Root can bowl.  Labu can bowl leggies. Even Azharuddin once bowled 8 or 10 overs in a match for us.  The very reason we are trying to playing injury prone Pandya is we lack all rounders at the top

We have shardul Deepak harshal and Venkatesh iyyer who have capability to become all rounders.The problem is we need to give these guys chances up the order so that they can develop their game
