But we went with SKY whose domestic average is 39. When we tour overseas we have very little option but to use the ones that we have like we did with Sundar/Natrajan in Australia. But when you are at home shouldn't they reward players who have more consistency in domestic? Shouldn't guys like Sarfraz khan be in the reckoning. 24 year old averaging 66.50. A flop in limited over games. But he has a decent start to his FC career. There may be more names that don't know. Basically SKY earned his selection through IPL -> T20 Edited November 23, 2021 by vvvslaxman Adamant, raki05, Adi_91 and 2 others 2 3
sensible-indian Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 (edited) These selectors are making MSK Prasad look like a legend. How the heck are we going from bad to worse to levels even below that. Imagine what Vihari must be feeling. There is no clear process. Scored 500+@56 in the last Ranji Trophy in 2019-20. Plus he has shown the right temperament for International cricket in the games he has played. Not exactly the worst choice. Sarfaraz Khan is fat and looks unfit, needs to grind out for India A before being picked for the Test squad. express bowling 1
Bigg Brother Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Ideally Panchal should have been added. But he is leading A squad but I still think some opener should have been included. Is Eshwaran in the squad??

Number Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I gave up on expecting sensible selections in WC 2019. When Opener Dhawan got injured, selectors replaced him with a WK bat Rishabh Pant. Then all rounder Shankar got injured they replaced him with an opener Mayank. raki05 and Lord 1 1
helperononline Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Don't quite like the idea of selecting Saha, Surya Kumar yadav instead they could have gone for young talent like rituraj gaikwad This is the ideal time for grooming these youngsters under dravid
The Realist Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Still persisting with Rahane and Pujara is lunacy, in any other sport these kind of returns would see you axed: The other two, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahane, you have to believe, must be under some pressure. Rahane is averaging under 25 over the last 15 Tests with one century. At home, he has averaged 18.66 in four Tests in this period. Pujara is averaging under 29 over his last 22 Tests and he hasn't scored a century. His average of 32.25 in nine home Tests in this period is a cause for concern. I actually think there is a retarded one: keep have beens like Rahane and add all format players, which means use ODI/T20 success for tests. If someone in the committee mentions the word specialization they will be lynched or buried alive. Edited November 23, 2021 by Clarke sensible-indian 1

Basically SKY earned his selection through IPL -> T20 vihari is the long term pujara replacement but i can't remember when he last played a test at home. rahuls injury is a shame as he could have used a strong series at home to cement his comeback after a good England tour. Sky and iyer type players won't be the first name to come to mind when you want someone to be given a chance in red ball cricket but they seem the types to have the temperament to still make it work, especially if guys like Thakur and Sundar did well in a tough tour abroad. Our batting stocks in general are not great atm.
Majestic Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 This picking player from one format to another format is ridiculous thing.
Sgattick10 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I really pray that Rahane fails badly in both tests and kicked out. He doesn't deserve a place in the side. express bowling, raki05 and Vijy 3
ShoonyaSifar Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Why exactly has SKY been labelled as a white ball specialist? One of the genuine middle order bats, who regularly plays at number 5 or 6 for Mumbai, has done multiple rescue acts for them and has a respectable FC batting average of 44. Such players will not have 50+ FC averages due to the position they bat at. Normally our test batting units have had 4 players batting at 3/4 for their Ranji sides bat at number 3-6 for the Test squad. Also, one lament many posters on this forum have had is the slow scoring rate of our batsmen giving an upper hand to the opposition. Iyer has a FC SR of 80+ (and a FC batting average of 51) and and SKY's FC SR is 62 (scored 500+ runs in his last Ranji season @56 and a SR of 95). I actually like that the selectors are being bold in their selection (except for being harsh on Vihari when he deserved a proper run). RedFever 1

If he doesn't get to play now then can see him being discarded, however unfairly, for other younger emerging players.
