Yes, one thing is common across all series barring exception like Aus 2018 - most impactful player is the one who is regularly 5th-8th in terms of runs/averages in a team playing 5 batsmen.

People who know know that the most impactful batsman turned it around in Aus in 2018/9 and 2020/1 :proud:

No other Asian team has won a test series in Aus yet.

PS and since 2018 among those who have played at least 10 matches, accounting for a variety of conditions in SENA

in the top order (#1-3)

Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or South Africa
Home or away away (home of opposition)
Start of match date greater than or equal to 1 Jan 2018
Batting position between 1 and 3
Qualifications matches played greater than or equal to 10
Ordered by batting average (descending)
Overall figures

CA Pujara 2018-2022 24 44 3 1604 193 39.12 4429 36.21 4 10 4 188 2
KL Rahul 2018-2022 17 33 0 927 149 28.09 1933 47.95 3 2 4 126 5

Ahead of the next placed guy like 40%

Balls faced 4429 which is roughly over 100 per inning!!!!

in the middle order (#4-7)

If you have Bumrah (<20) Shami & Ishant (<25) and Ashwin+Jadeja (<30) performing with those stats in the 2018-19 series, credit to you for teaching them bowling skills. That's some real world impact.

Shame that Sachin, Rahul etc didn't teach proper bowling to Agarkar, Nehra etc. These fools instead tried to roll their arm to cover up lack of "impact".

3 matches

124 runs

20.67 avg

1 fifty

What an impactful performance in the series.

Currently 5th highest run getter for India in series.

Pant needs 39 runs and Ashwin 43 to surpass Pujara in this series.

Just saw the scorecard … Remained on 9 …  Not a great last encounter in SA for the Master of Impact and the King of Darkness … Life moves on but let’s hope that with 7 wkts in hand, the rest of the team showcases his spirit and fights it out :thumb:
