so called GOAT  captain.. MSD took India to 6 T20 world cups and only won one ?  6 attempts and won only once? I would have a better strike rate of getting 6 while rolling a dice.. this and 2011 we remember them every year as if no other country was able to do it..

Dhoni was a mediocre T20 player and a captain. Stars aligned for him and he won the inaugural edition but he has nothing else apart from that. All his IPL wins with CSK should be taken with a bowl of salt.

Rigidity was the reason. I am not sure how many remember. You can check archive threads of match where it was discussed about. He always had this ego that his calls are beyond questioning. So he did not change the side even though he knew it warranted a change. Just to prove himself right he kept persisting the losers. I won't call him a dummy. He was smart enough to stay relevant for a very long time. But he had this habit persisting with a failed strategy with the hope he will be proven right.

Remember the facade of MSD bringing the entire team to the press conference to show “unity”?

The biggest myth is Dhoni was the best finisher..The guy had lost so many winnable matches ,whichever he won,the middle order batter/ top order batter who contributed in that match,hardly got the credit.

 

More than myth,I would call it blind worshipping. Coming back to topic,any other country and he would have been thrown out not only from captaincy but from team XI  after 2009,2010,2012 wt20 failure,here he went on to play 2014 and 2016,too.. We are terming the current phase of Indian cricket as darkest and dullest but 2009-2012 was no less,Win in 2011 home WC made it as if it wasn't there..Knocked out in Ct2009,2009-2010-2012 wt20 debacle where India couldn't even reach SF, 0-4 whooping in Australia -England...Laughable that people laud and worship him as some genius captain...

Even in 2007 we got very very lucky. 

Misbah messed it up after getting Pakistan so close.

But it seems like we used all our luck in winning that one.

After that we have been so unlucky.

 

2014 or 2016 or both of them we should have won. Kohli was like Bradman in those years in SC pitches.

Dhoni was a gate keeper. He had this process ****, so the team he had always played to som 80 percent minimum to their potential in t20. That meant no nz pak sl type biotch team could get across, but when it needed like a 110 percent effort to dismantle good teams of that time was often klpd.

He should have bowed out with dignity after the 2015 WC to keep his record respectable. He set the trend of way past it seniors hanging around under the guise of experience. "Process" and "experience" are both his legacy and indirectly, he continues to screw the team even today.

Our media is so spineless, otherwise our captains/selectors would be sitting ducks if our media posed constructive and objective questions. For example, what is our blueprint (if there is any) to capture T20 WC, as we have the “biggest and best” T20 league?

Cant blame Dhoni for test loss in england and aus. Both openers were struggling, entire middle order was 2yrs past expiry. Almost the entire team had retired or was replaced within months.

Dhoni's legacy's most overlooked part is how he developed players for us and shown confidence in them. Jadeja, Ashwin, Rohit, Ishant, Shami, Kohli, Dhawan, Raina, Pandya, Bumrah all got their chances under him.

Compare this to Kohli who couldn't stick with a batsman at number 4 for a single series.

He recalled RP Singh and played him when Umesh and Aaron were on the bench

Recalled Bell

Gave up easy chase in WI which showed his mindset

Kept playing seniors when we could play youngsters

Kohli had the same issue with RCB. Dube was dumped in 2 matches. I know he is not the greatest of the greatest. But for IPL level he could  still have been a force for them.

Ganguly was much better than Dhoni in terms of developing players.  Virat, the absolute worst I have seen.
