Unpopular opinion- Arshdeep Singh does not have a particularly high ceiling.

So while everyone plays safe. I will make myself vulnerable to ridicule and abuse but i have a feeling that Arshdeep will turn out to be another Bhuvi in the long run. Good new ball skills but there is something missing, he is doing so well but still missing that sauce, that something.

Arshdeep is a floaty pacer unless he is bowling bouncers ( which are very good )

 

This means he is likely to be a bowler who will do well primarily in swinging conditions.

 

He will be a limited bowler unless he can hit the deck hard with his length balls

His hitting ability isn't that great. But if he goes with hitting, he will lose his swing.

Depends on how much/quick he can improve. Does anyone remember Mcgrath's start & contrast that say against Gillespie? Of course he won't get close to Mcgrath but even with limited skills if he's disciplined he can improve leaps & bounds, the thing that set Mcgrath from the rest was his mental strength! Among modern day greats only Warne comes close, probably exceeds him in that department.

Pretty useful as a T20 bowler with solid temperament.

Temperament is so important in T20s. You hit Bhuvi for a 4 and he will be all over the place.

He is a swing bowler with left arm angle but his utility is that he can nail yorkers well and has good slower ones.

We don't get many bowlers like him in India.

He can go with hitting the deck only if there is no swing on offer or after the swing dies down

This is a day and age of well rounded athletes. Missing in that regard. However Bhajji used to be wiry like him but used to smoke huge 6s so hopefully there is more to him.

 

don’t expect him to be an allrounder but as is the case with most trundlerish bowlers, they need to offer something else.

he has played in Dubai, Aus and Ind conditons and so far never seen him get smashed badly so he is doing something right. I do understand sentiment of people not rating him as a future prospect but nothing he has done so far with the ball warrants any criticism whatsoever.

Disagree. When Buttler and co smashed everyone around, he gave away just 15 off 2. I have seen other bowlers disappear under pressure. He doesn't disappoint.

Arshdeep is a WIP right now, I know he can't be a complete bowler as he don't have the ability to hit the deck at pace...but he has mental calmness and skill to execute Yorkers.

 

As long as we don't mix him with the other formats and keep him only for T20's, I am fine with it.

I think this is a meagre assumption, not too long ago he bounced a few batsman out in the world cup by hitting the deck, he's capable of hitting the deck when he wants to.

Honestly, i haven't seen him bat, agree that fielding needs improvement, but after that dropped catch in Asia Cup, he hasn't really made a glaring error in the field. Bumrah took his batting seriously and improved leaps and bounds. Maybe  Siraj, Arshdeep,  Umran etc would follow the suit and work on their batting.

He can improve, has age on his side. If he improves fitness and adds a bit more speed and accuracy, he'll do good. Can already move the ball which is a huge plus and can bowl yorkers at death.
