zen Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 One of the ingredients required to win a world cup is the ability to pounce on the opportunity like a fearless Tiger. When I said that England had the best chance of winning the T20 World Cup 2022 is not only because of talented players the team has and how it plays the game but also because of players with let's call Tiger qualities. When I saw that somehow Ben Stokes was in the T20 line up, I knew England had an ace up its sleeve. This is not by design and many would point at Stokes' stats to identify him as a "not-so-good" T20 player, but that is the type of ingredient needed to win world cups. To a relatively lesser degree, other such player would be a Sam Curran. When you combine such players with other talented players that England has, it creates a highly potent and dangerous force that can become unstoppable if it manages to reach KOs. To win a world cup, a team needs at least 2-3 such players. Forgot the stats, which are more useful to judge retired players or those past their peaks. Current players especially those not at their peak or just entering their peak are creating new stats. What selectors need to do focus on is Potential + Tiger qualities. While India has many talented players, currently, there is only one who fits the bill - Sir Don Pandya. If this was 2014-2016 period, I would probably mention Kohli, but now we are moving into 2023. Since India is trying out many new players, I am hoping that we can unearth more such players. I haven't watched too much of Jaiswal apart from a few knocks in IPL, but he may have some of the Tiger qualities. If his cricketing skills are developed, he could turn out to be an asset in world cups, therefore, selectors should keep an eye on him. To summarize, to win world cups, seek out players with Potential + Tiger qualities. Use stats more for retired or past their peak players as players not at their peak or just entering that phase would be creating new stats. Once you identify players with such qualities, keep patience and allow them the time to develop including learning from failures. Selectors needs to adjust their ways of picking the squad. Luckily for India, it is entering a phase where new ideas and ways of thinking can be embraced. I see a feeling where people are looking to introspect to see what they are doing wrong and where they can drive a change to improve. The good part is that it is never to late to get on the correct path! Lord, RedFever and Norman 1 1 1
zen Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 PS just remembered Tewatia, he has some of the Tiger quality. Hopefully, he can keep improving his cricketing abilities!

Useful player but already 31-32 years of age, therefore probably in the "maturity" stage or hitting that stage now (unless he has a rare revival of fortunes): I have only focused on players (from the top of the mind recall) in introduction (Jaiswal) and Growth (SDP & Tewatia) stages. PS The key point is focusing on players with certain qualities. Tomorrow, we could find some more players with such qualities! Edited November 30, 2022 by zen

jalebi_bhai Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 On a serious note, we could do a lot worse than drafting this guy in the team Will get higher yo-yo score than most of our players
jalebi_bhai Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Trolling aside, there needs to be some emphasis on drafting mentally tough players over statpadders, KL being a classic example of the latter. But mental toughness is not a quantifiable trait, so we will have to figure out some way to weed out the chokers.
Vilander Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) gujjus think they own Asiatic lions they even played politics through modi against overwhelming scientific evidence and kept asiatic lions in a very small forest area. As a result a new type of inbred sick 'gujrati' lion has emerged. It went from this To this This is gujju lion..it even looks vegetarian, more suitable for this thread. zen Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) Why are some folks making it Gujarat verus whatever here? ... I though we are discussing cricket here. Certain posters even bring in Canada for no reason. Some folks may suffer from inferiority complex and jealousy but this is not even helping them but further putting them into crappy category. If this is where ICF wants to go, then I have my opinions on other regions as well. Please open a thread where we can discuss "details" on all regions. Edited November 30, 2022 by zen

First wc 2017: Final useless 50 when top3 failed 2019: SF stitched a partnership with Pant and Dhoni to stay afloat 2021: batting failure, no bowling, nursing a bad back 2022: Partnered with Kohli, got 3 wickets, but failed in most matches, except SF when openers and sky failed , late surge was not enough, bad bowling If this is the standard to call somebody a winning tiger, it is very easy to please bhakts Edited December 1, 2022 by coffee_rules

Other teams are on it too. If ppl can’t give credit to someone who stitched a 100+ runs p’ship with India 31/4, while picking up 3 wkts to limit Pak’s total, what the point in following the game? Even if the team had lost the game, this is still a superb performance. India needs more such mentally strong players. Unfortunately, one such player (or “Tiger”) cannot do it all. Ben Stokes failed in many games and did not even bat in the SF. He did not bowl much too in that game. But at the right moments like in the final brought in his fighting game (even if Eng had lost, it would have been a notable effort). If Sir Don were playing for Eng, that team would be on an even higher plane with Sir Don, Stokes, etc! Edited December 1, 2022 by zen
