Kapil Dev doubled down on his stance of calling pressure 'an american word' and was highly critical of players complaining about pressure while playing for Indian team and in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kapil was the captain of India's historic 1983 World cup-winning team that lifted the trophy at Lord's.

Having faced backlash for his comments on mental health and depression a couple of months back, former Indian captain Kapil Dev has doubled down on his stance and once again pressured 'an American word.' Kapil spoke in detail about his surprise at hearing modern-day players complain about pressure while playing for the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League (IPL) . 

 

Kapil stated that no one has forced players to play and they are free to leave. He stated that players should feel pride at being among the 20 chosen to play for the nation. Kapil went on to say that players who feel pressure should 'open a banana stall or egg shop.' Kapil stated that players should view the task at hand as 'pleasure' which will make their job easier.

"I keep hearing 'We are playing the IPL. There is so much pressure.' This word is so common, right? To them, I say 'Don't play'. Who is asking you to? There is pressure, but if you are playing at that level, you will be admired and abused. If you are afraid of abuses, then don't play. You are representing the country and you have pressure? How is that possible. 

 

 

“Out of a country of 100 crore, 20 of you are playing and then you say you have pressure? Instead, say it's a matter of pride. You are getting so much love from people. Learn to take that pride," Kapil while addressing an audience in a public event at Kolkata which was live streamed on Facebook.

"Pressure is an American word. If you don't want to work, don't. Is anyone forcing you? Jaa ke kele ki shop lagao. Ande becho ja ke. (Open a banana stall, go sell eggs). But when you have gotten an opportunity, why do you take it as pressure. Take it as pleasure and have fun with it. The day you start doing it, the job will appear easy. But if you call the same thing pressure, nothing good can come of it," he added. 

In recent times, many players have spoken about their struggles with mental health including ex-Indian captain Virat Kohli, who revealed he was trying to fake his intensity before taking a month-long break in the build-up to the 2022 Asia cup. England captain Ben Stokes took a lengthy break from the game in 2021 to focus on his mental health.

match fixing is totally different from player complaining about pressure genius,u are comparing mental harassment and character assassination to player's complaining about pressure both are totally different,its like somebody alleges that u abused him and ur boss giving u excessive work how can u compare both is beyond appalling

He didn't say there is no pressure or depression issues but he says if you have these issues, stop playing. No one is forcing you to play. You are earning to perform for India.

That is the big problem, instead of helping players who are going thru these  mental issues we are asking them to quit.

Ghana mental issues. If you are overworked you can skip IPL or low profile series.

 

You want to earn as much as you can and also want less workload?

 

Already Indian cricketers are overpaid as compared to cricketers around the world.

Didn't Ross Taylor say that an RR owner scolded and slapped him for not performing as per expectations? It is possible other owners are similar or worse and putting pressure on the players.

It is but not playing is still a choice, pretty sure their brand endorsements can cover at least some of the income lost through IPL, if they perform better in internationals! But of course if they want a lifestyle of an Elon Musk or SRK then no amount of money will be enough

 Why are you getting worked up on how much money these players are earning. They are not complaining of fatigue. 

 

I don't understand why people talk about money players are making when addressing the issues of their mental health, Are they asking how much money you are making.

 

Idiots like Kapil and people who think like that idiot are problem not the players.
