rangeelaraja
I am struggling to think of many ( if any ) ...you either have it or don't. Sehwag ...was not selected after failing his debut, but then returned as a monster. All other "good / great/ legendary cricketers " made an early impact. if they did not, they were permanently dumped. I think that kind of selection policy needs to be revisited. YOU JUST KNOW A WINNER WHEN YOU SEE ONE EARLY ON. - Bhajji, Yuvraj, Sehwag, Zak, SKY, Bumrah, Dhoni ...etc etc YOU KNOW A LOSER WHEN YOU SEE ONE EARLY ON....KL, Chahal, Arshdeep...etc etc. The lesson is give somebody 2-3 series. If they don't perform. Don't ever bring em back. We have a huge talent pool. KL, Chahal, Arshdeep are not international level talent. Shut the F'king door on them already. Not true...Pujara was averaging in the 50s in his first 10 test matches, and Axar has been a MONSTER since his test debut. His test bowling average is unreal. Venky Prasad was mediocre throughout his career but made big impact in 4-5 marquee matches. Under_Score, raki05 and tweaker 2 1 Link to comment
Serpico
Rohit Sharma? Although he performed really well in first WT20 and tri series in Aus, he was mediocre for next 4-5 yrs before he became good rangeelaraja and helperononline 2 Link to comment
Serpico
VVS Laxman didn't score a 100 in his first 16 tests and averaged 24. Then out of the blue, he scored one in Sydney and became a clutch batsman in tests rangeelaraja, rollingstoned and BacktoCricaddict 3 Link to comment

He batted in 6 different positions. They abused his batting position. BacktoCricaddict, sorak and tweaker 3 Link to comment

Sean Bradley
Virat Kohli - Never had a reputation of being any kind of childhood enigma like SRT, Yes he was the captain of under 19s, but so was Mohd Kaif. No one in their wildest dreams would have imagined that he would reach stature of SRT in Indian cricket or probably even surpass him. tweaker 1 Link to comment

But India's lack of trophies over a decade combined with Kohli's underwhelming WC record will hurt his reputation. Don't see him surpassing Sachin. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Ganguly was a joke in 1992. He looked like Siraj with bat. When he was picked in 1996 there were some silent disapprovals as he got picked. Definitely surprised everyone. Link to comment
Majestic
What about Dravid? He was mediocre and rated below Tendulkar and Ganguly atleast among casual fans till 2001 and was on verge of getting dropped before Kolkata test happened. Also in ODIs, he was considered slow. Link to comment
