Kohli is only the rubber stamp captain in LOIs

It is as clear as day and night in tests...Kohli backing genuine pace bowlers in tests be it Yadav,Aron or Ishant and Shami in test cricket or   Induct 5 bowler theory be it Binny or Jayant or even Pandya in the squad shows that Kohli has a different idea when it comes to test cricket.

the approach, tactics etc all gives us a different feel...in LOIs on the other hand, win or lose it seems dejavu.

Raina bowling 4 overs today, the field settings etc etc. Now I am not saying it is totally bad because love it it hate it Dhoni is a ATG LOI captain but the feel is very retro.

seeing Dhoni's proactiveness it still feels that Kohli is only the rubber stamp captain...the reigns is still in Dhoni's hands. We will win some and lose some but for the moment i think it is still Dhoni who is in charge and in command.

You are over estimating and analysing. Give your mind some rest. Dhoni or any senior player will always come and advise Kohli or any new captain plus Dhoni being former captain, he will naturally suggest some things.

Kohli is the one making most changes, Dhoni has been just allowed to make sole field changes as he is a keeper. Keepers from a lot of teams make fielders change their positions even if they have not been former captain because many captains trust the keepers to keepers to help them out because they pretty much have the best view in the middle.

This forum continues to amaze me.All the things you like are attributed to Kohli, all you do not to Dhoni,I mean it's wonderful & convenient.

This

OP has a point but it is likely he will just use this thread to indulge in the above.

What is so wrong about playing medium pacers in LOIs ? In LOIs, the entire point is to keep the run-rate down. our 'fast bowlers', namely Umesh or Shami- are expensive in terms of containing runs. In tests, its all about taking wickets for less runs conceded buy the opposition, not run-rate. I'd rather have a guy in tests who has 15-0-90-4 than someone who has 20-10-45-0. Atleast, one-on-one it is an easy choice.

So i fail to see, where is that such a flawed thinking..

Kohli has played almost 10 years under Dhoni, seeing Dhoni captain for so many years in LOIs successfully, so, there will be things that Kohli will do remind you of captain Dhoni. You will have to give him time in LOIs to see how he develops his own style.

Even in LOIs, you need to take wickets these day. Only wickets can bring run rate down. Take an example of BK.  He neither took wickets nor contained runs against England. It is not 90s now. No matter who the bowler is these days, if you dont take wickets you will be thrashed at some point unless you are some mystery  bowler like Narine.

There you go targeting bk again. The pace demon yadav also goes for runs without taking wickets - he went at 9 an over and took 1 wicket right at death - but not a peep from you as - my speed gun

In 2nd match bk was 63 for 1 while pacy bumrah was 83 for 2. In 3rd bk went for 56 for 0 in 8 while bumrah went for 63 for 1

As you can see, bk has not been worse than bumrah and much better than yadav. Yet you constantly try to peddle a false narrative based on speed guns reading. If only facts supported you

Yes, but its still preferable to take the slightly less wicket-taking bowler who is tighter, than a wicket-taking bowler who is spraying all over the place. Remember we are not talking about a Waqar Younis with a 6RPO economy rate.

I am not advocating for Yadav here. I am just saying you need to take wickets in order to stop the run flow. There is no other way.

yea, but our wicket-taking bowlers are not THAT much more wicket-taking to compensate for them spraying it around. So unless the wicket-taking expensive bowler is that much better at taking wickets, you are better off with a line-n-length bowler who will pick up a few wickets here and there by building pressure.

When u have a skipper like dhoni in side why not use him . Kohli is lucky to have MS at his side

Once sehwag said - when all seniors retired it affected dhoni's captaincy as dhoni had nowhere to look for advice or 2nd opinion.

They all play towards one goal that team shud win. This has been dhoni's team for 9-10 years and it will take time for virat to have his team & plans .

Kohli is still a bit lost when it comes to T20 captaincy, a format in which the captain must make frequent on field spur of the moment decisions with the fast paced changes that occur during the game in that format.

Dhoni's test captaincy was really disappointing, but he was pretty damn good in the shorter formats. Of course he never really belonged as a player in T20s, but his captaincy was sharp.

Dhoni does really need to move on as a player from T20s, but as long as he is there, I have no problem with a still novice Captain Kohli learning from him.

Also, even a medium pacer can be a wicket taking bowler, for example Nathan Bracken. I dont want Yadav should play ODIs. He is a nightmare for any captain.

Spot on , you need to be wicket taking bowler.I rather have a bowler who gives up 60 runs but takes 4 wickets over a bowler who gives up 45 runs and takes no wickets.

The era of 10-2-25-0 figures is over.Bowlers will go for runs that is given,so bowlers who take wickets while giving up runs make all the difference.

The difference in captaincies will be more once they step away from sub continent. Dhoni has been containing captain who wanted to prolong the match as long as possible and it reflects in his batting too nothing wrong with it but it was his style.
