Mohammed Siraj is a quality pace bowling prospect

Recommended Posts

But for red ball cricket.  He needs to be groomed and developed to his optimal levels.  But the economic incentives in cricket are going to distract him with the white ball, and he is at risk of going the Umesh Yadav path, instead of the Bumrah path.

Some bowlers can't develop the control and nous required to be effective with the white ball and the scoring pressures that are built in.  But Siraj shows plenty of evidence, of being a really effective red ball bowler.  This guy is a wicket-taker, targets the stumps, and is quick enough to make it work.  His stats won't show it here in the ongoing WI A game - but they are being impacted by the fact that we have Shivam Dubey bowling at the other end - a next generation Sanjay Bangar bowling pies.

There is clear lack of energy in his stride. His fitness level needs to improve.

Unless there is a speed gun showing slower speeds, it’s hard to agree. In televised matches, he has repeatedly bowled 140+ in his 3rd spells.

it’s astonishing why he has not been given a proper run in Test cricket, tools more wickets than anyone has ever done for Ind A yet no chance even in longer format which is his strongest suit. But our captain prefers control.

there is an Idiom, loha garam hai, maar do hathoda but our selectors and captain-coach keep waiting for loha to get cold before they pick it.  They are too afraid of the burn they can do to themselves by picking it.  They forget, they can pick the loha bit cautiously to avoid burns.

Haha, well said. The Loha should not be playing any limited overs cricket, definitely NOT T20s. I think Siraj should have replaced Umesh in the test squad for WI

Btw, on a semi related note why dosent Aniket Chaudhary get picked for four day match A teams- had a good Ranjir season and surely a better test prospect than Thakur, especially given that we have not left arm pacemen

Both Siraj and Saini should have played Afghan test last year.  lack of foresight and vision is appalling.

Then the future looks decidedly bleak. Certified trundler and nowhere near international standard.

it won't happen if the right selections are made. next gen attack can have bumrah, saini, siraj, nagarkotti, mavi and maybe aniket for the left-arm option. this is pretty solid. of course, knowing selectors they may choose the fiery pace of dubey instead.

He looks like a bowler who needs to bowl a few overs to build a good rhythm. The pressure of Whiteball cricket seems to be too much for him. Backing him for an entire series would be a good way to extract his full potential. But it won't happen because Kohli has already talked about each and every test match being important due to the world championship. So just forget about giving an extended run for any player.

another victim of dumbassness of  incompetent leeches sastri & prasad . From his  stats , it is evident that he is much suited to tests. And these morons neglect him for tests and give chances in ODIs & T20S.

MSK is an idiot who thinks players should progress from t20, to ODI and then test.

You will have to give new players chances. Otherwise, how are you going to develop new bowlers. What is the idea behind taking overseas failure Umesh to WI when we have young breed ready in Saini, Siraj, Avesh.

Neither is Siraj.  I watched him bowl against punjab, while his numbers look good anyone who watched the game knows he wasnt impressive.
