I would put it at around 5-6/10 too, considering that he is opening in ODIs after a long time or intermittently, and with Ind batting first. For an experienced/regular opener, the marks for a 50 of a 70+ balls inning would be lower

He is being humble. 3 wickets in first 10 overs in overcast conditions and things would have gone sideways quite quickly for India with Shankar(noobie) and Jadhav(who is not in the best of nick) to come. Gave a solid start which ensured a big total.

Being asked to open out of the blue against Pak in WC is never easy.

I rate his performance 9/10, only Rohit scores higher among the batsmen. He is being too hard on himself.

Fair enough, he fielded well except that drop in the end but overall a good performance.

I would give a 7. He played Amir with no issues. His trigger movements were good. Not lunging.  Apart from few nibbles he was good.

That was Imad Wasim behind him. It will be interesting to see how both these guys go and where they will be by the time next WC comes by in India.

Looks in good touch. There was a phase after the 15th over mark when I felt that he could have rotated the strike or even taken the attack to the spinners. He used to pay 2 dot balls beofre rtating the strike on the thrid ball to a guy like Imad and was blocking pre-meditatively. 

 

He can easily take over from Shikar before the next WC. Needs to be mindful of his strike rate afetr he has settled down. As I said in the other thread, he has the game to murder short pitched bowling and that makes him a very good limited over top order option.

would give him a 7.5 or even an 8. Amir is not the same level as during his fixer phase, but he knows how to trouble Ind top and middle order. I think rahul did a good job of negating him and was actually beginning to accelerate quite well before losing his wkt.

he played well and to plan it seems, played the most pleasant shot of the day against Hafeez but once again it seemed he was keeping himself within bounds. I want to see him play at his best once in this world cup, it would be a great sight

rahul on song can be destructive. if shikhar returns and finds his form, rahul could do a good job at 4, especially in the end overs where he can really cut loose (if he's still batting)
