Tactics

 

Spin was fodder on this track. Sticking to algorithms like 'England bad vs spin' and 'I love Kul Cha' messed us up today. Seam bowling was hard to hit today and extra spinner for a seamer would have limited England's total by some runs. 

 

Rohit and Kohli should have started accelerating in 26/27th over and put England under pressure earlier. 

No solid plans to Ben Stokes. 

Too many dot balls in first 10 overs. If boundaries weren't coming, could have at least rotated strike better. 

 

Fielding 

 

England were outstanding in the field and saved so many boundaries. India, starting with poor wicket keeping with MS Dhoni leaked so many extra boundaries. Think how much closer the absence of these difference would have brought the two totals?

Selection 

 

MS Dhoni sapped all of Pandya's momentum. Pandya was on a roll and was slowed down by MS's arrival. No intent to hit out- again playing for averages. Missed a review call of Jason Roy too. 

 

Jadeja- with poor form of Kulcha and their useless batting, time to bring him back. Bhuvi obviously. 

Luck

 

Bad toss to lose. Batting second would have always been tougher. 

 

Conclusion

Actually good for India to suffer this loss now whilst we still have time to sort out the issues- otherwise another win would have further swept it under the carpet.

When Hardik got out. Till then, there was a chance. Bowling wise, they could have picked B Kumar instead of a spinner but this is entirely in hindsight.

Hitman and Pant both fell when they were expected to hit out and bust us out of jail. The moment Dhoni walked in, I was sure that it's all over.

there were many factors. kulcha's ineffectiveness, shami's generosity at the death, our horribly slow PP, inability to accelerate at the end, and of course the shameless tuk-tuking. if we don't address all of these, we will probably get KOed in the SFs.

Our spinners gave 160 in 20 overs today. It was after 37 overs when ben stokes took the game away.

Game was lost when Pant got out and Dhoni walked in. Team scores were similar. Dhoni probably brainwashed Hardik to "take it deep" - he slowed down after that then thala just decided to throw the match.

Toss and Mohammed shami. The guy has played Ipl and so much international cricket  but don't have iota of knowledge of death bowling. He was bowling knee high full tosses at gentle pace in the zone to stokes. No attempt for wide ball Yorkers, slower balls etc.we really miss today Bhuvi bowling

Something that bothered me is, the English really targeted the short boundary and even played unorthodox shots to target the boundary. I didn’t see India even try to do this, what kind of stupidity is this?

100 runs and 7 wickets in hand, India would have taken that anyday.

 

yet we lacked intent and lost all momentum in those last 10 overs. How they didnt target Rashid was shocking!! That killed the contest

Not easy. The pitch has slowed down drastically by then. And slowler balls are almost impossible to hit. It is not like we are playing in chinnaswamy with dew in outfield. Forget about India, no batting line up in the world would have won that match in that situation against such a good Fielding team.

The same pair managed to pull back the scores to just 12 run difference in 37th over
