22 years old, avg of 30.82 after 44 matches, just 3 100s in 74 innings. Eng selctors saw the talent, picked him. Could be a genius move that becomes part of cricket folklore. Frankly I can't remember the last time when a top 5 team played a kid with such poor FC numbers at #3. And he has shown promise here.

Meanwhile a 74 averaging, potential ATG Shubman Gill is unable to break into Indian team. Not like we have Fab 5 or anything close to ATG Aus/RSA batting unit now, we saw how things unfolded in NZ. Che and Kohli have their places fixed but Rahane? Vihari can be given some more time, was treated rather harshly and he has age, secondary skill on his side.

Selection of Crawely might be because of lack of talent. May not be because of brilliance of selectors...

Roy Burns...have you seen him? he looks outright pathetic...based on this selection, i think selectors are just piss poor

Don't remind us all of that phoney Rahane. Somehow the guy is a star of Indian cricket. Indian cricket should have moved on from Rahane a while back.

It's strange Crawley averages just 30 in first class cricket. I didn't know that, definite Kudos to the selectors.

If that is true it makes a lot of sense.

Surely there are others out there in CC with better avg than 30 and rate of 1 century per 25 innings.

Ed Smith is their chief selector, no? He also revolutionized England's white ball culture with daring, out of the box picks.

even Marnus labuschane avg 30 and Aussie selectors backed him

Always thought there might be some reason for him being backed by England team even after having pretty mediocre stats in first class cricket. Good thing is he is just 22 so he can improve alot.

Indian batsmen have to play a minimum of 283 FC innings before we can decide whether they are good enough.  Same thing with Saini on the bowling side.  He's 27 now, and has been toiling in FC for 7 years.

There is a guy like Baristow on the bench. Sure he has been inconsistent in tests but guys like that and Butler should play every important game. He is almost a Rohitesque level talent, may be a tier below but still extremely talented.

So I agree with you it shows that Crawley was scouted as an alternative rather than there being lack of talent.

Players like Bairstow and even a guy like Morgan would have been playing tests if they were Indians.

Rob key was mentioning this guy is so self motivated that he took flight to india to harness his batting against spin and went to Perth to get acclemetized with pace and bounce all on his own cost and ECB dint pay a single penny. Have you guys seen his batting he was so clear that which bowls to leave and which to play at such a tender age, his game against pace is perfect against spin he still needs to improve.

Rahane remains untouched,he is not even stripped off his vice captaincy

Let's see how long mafia lobby backs him,he is not getting younger either

There are talks of Rohit opening in Aus,waste of a spot and time

Rohit a legend of white ball cricket and failure in red ball(certainly overseas) shouldn't be imposed on test side

Guys like Shaw,Gill need to be given a longer run

Selectors have huge role to play in coming time, need to be very smart and make up for the losses we have made in MSK reign

Even if the selectirs pick a talented youngster, 'rat wont give them opportunity to succeed. He knows zilch about backing talent. Pant and Gill were picked in the squad, so selectors' job was done.

I am worried about Paddikal, he is a genuine prospect for upcoming T20 tournaments but he is in that facade of the team called RCB under that loser Virat. Let's see how many games he gives him before the inevitable omission.
