Indian team management keen to focus on grooming next generation of Test cricketers

Okay, this drama about youngsters for tests. That too only playing Gill and Pant. Two spots for youngsters and what about rest. Do two young  players getting chances mean a next generation team is built. Expect the plan of developing two youngsters only to build a next generation team to fail. For that plan to succeed few years later, one needs to play many youngsters now in playing 11.

What about developing a team for ODI and T20i. Or are they waiting to announce after we are out of the T20i and World cup.

This grooming thing is all nonsense. Use the existing player and field the best X1. Sharma, Rahu, Dhawan and Pant were better choices than the curent lot. Break in only a new player or two if they excell. Before the first bowl was bowled I mentioned not playing Rahul and Pant is a mistake.

Grooming is diversion. They are still not adressing the problem.

Have any good test batsman come through in the last 4-5 years? Part of it is Virat's fault for creating insecurities. A bit surprising that with Rahul Dravid taking care of the U19s, there is a bit of a dearth of young test batsmen.

The system invested a lot in Shaw and Pant. Pant may just turn out fine in tests long term. Not sure about Shaw.

The u19s are not really improving enough in the domestic system, atleast not in the longer format. Likes of Shaw and Gill still have the same deficiencies they had a couple of years back. Only Porel is showing improvements enough. Avesh has become a swing bowling trundler.

I think we need something in between the A side and u19 teams which can act as a bridge between the two levels and grant these players exposure to foreign conditions to fasttrack the exceptional talents.

Did you really mentioned Dhawan:hatsoff:...  The 35 year old with ultra slow reflexes is supposed to play seam swing & bounce which he was unable to do in his prime years lol.

I really like Padikkal's batting. He has time to play fast bowlers and can drive, cut and pull too. Can play on the front foot and off the back foot too. Has both timing and power.

But he averages 34.9 after 15 FC games with no centuries. This is a cause for concern for a test match prospect. I hope the main reason for pushing him is not because he is a left hander.

Needs to work on his fitness..  I think he lacks stamina & endurance to play for longer duration.  His Technique & strokes are absolutely top class & has got the gift of timing.  Hopefully he overcomes his short comings in NCA.

I think that's because he is young. However, his fielding and catching was absolutey top notch level this season for RCB.

Changes in Indian cricket come only after major debacles.

Why can't we think of these basic things before major debacles  !!

Because thats how India runs. is there any aspect of Indian society that works differently?

Not. Holding. My. Breath.

Problem is we fans are easily the biggest chew****s in this game.  We'll moan and whine and cry ... but when MCG opens up on Saturday, we will be soaking it all in like starry eyed nincompoops on Willow or Cricinfo or whatever ... aiding in the money churning!

The big listed companies in India are very proactive and efficient.

If they are not then their stock prices will fall. And most of the top management have stock options.

The easiest way to bring out consistent performances from our national team / cricketers is to have a system whereby bad performances will cause serious financial harm.

A huge amount of their remuneration should be tied to the series performances of Team India.

Some other strong clauses regarding their income related to cricket, are needed too.

Then we will find magical improvement in performances.

Agreed, seems a lot like Yuvi who was a great fit for LOIs with a range of strokes but was not a fit to Tests. Not saying Devdutt will not develop into a test bastman, just that he should not be fast tracked to tests despite not able to score runs in Domestics.

This is his first season.. Lets wait for 1 more season to see if he can grind it out in Indian domestics. Only problem is he could pick up habits which will show up as weakness in swinging / seaming conditions
