Below a copy & paste of one of my recent posts (to save time to not type many of these things):

 

I might be tempted to try the below in a future series (not based on FC #s but after watching the players play) 

 

Gaekwad - decent front and back foot game. Good temperament as well .... if likes of Agarwal show good form, they can be continued too

 

Paddikal - a dark horse but appears to have the right frame of mind .... adds value with left-right opening combination 

 

Gill - at 3 .... slotting a new batsman in his natural position (top order player)

 

Kohli - still the best in country, along w/ Pujara. Playing sans captaincy pressure 

 

Pujara (c) - a test specialist so can focus on building the test team. Should be tasked to scout talent as well and strategize for all test series as he does not play other formats. At 5 to safeguard against a collapse and guide the tail (can swap position with Gill if required)

 

Pant - WK AR .... an attacking left hander too

 

SDP - has the ingredients to be a match winner in tests as well 

 

Jadeja - a bowling  AR ... another left hander 

 

3 bowlers (per form, rotation, conditions, etc.)

This is what I meant in my “Timid Batting” thread. I had to mention Pujara... I was not asking for him to be dropped FFS. There were long sermons about Pujara being the best Test match player etc. All I’m saying is that he needs to “pull up his socks”... Also don’t want others to emulate Pujara and become like him. Let him be the lynchpin but others could be bit more attacking...

 

I mean 36AO really hurts. It’s demeaning... at a point when you have lost 4/5 wickets Alarm bells should’ve started  ringing and a bit of counter punch was required... You are already on the losing path. Atleast *ing go down fighting instead of all batsmen trying to be a Pujara...

Good thinking..  Grooming likes of Paddikal is a positive step.  Pujara is also going through a lean patch for 2 years now & nobody is noticing it coz of what he did last time in Australia.  This Aussie tour will likely see the end of Rahane hopefully. 

Rohit will come in for the last 2 games & he is likely to fail as well..  Unless he bats in MO.

Have any good test batsman come through in the last 4-5 years? Part of it is Virat's fault for creating insecurities. A bit surprising that with Rahul Dravid taking care of the U19s, there is a bit of a dearth of young test batsmen.

 

The system invested a lot in Shaw and Pant. Pant may just turn out fine in tests long term. Not sure about Shaw.

Huge gulf between U-19 and international cricket... I think out of the A-tours only Pant/Vihari/KL have made the transition. We are yet to see how Gill will perform

 

And further no-one knows what Dravid recommended to Selectors and what the captain asked for

Only an absolute annihilation and a decimation could bring a little change in the mindset of the team management. Not just the players, the coaching staff has to be put on notice. Especially the fielding and batting coaches. The captaincy needs to be reviewed. Youngsters need to be given chances. Don't wait for easy series, let them enter the ring of fire and have them experience the conditions and failures. This will only make them stronger. Australian tours always result in tough characters. Still remember how Laxman's 167 when his back was against the wall. It gave us a cricketer who won us critical matches in the next decade. Just looking for that spark in this series! The time fo Gill/Pant/Vihari has come. Who will stand up and be counted!

Right - left batting combination is the most underrated element in cricket. If they play smartly, the entire rhythm and dynamic of a bowling line up gets disturbed.

Not just cricket. Whole country follows that blueprint

Hope they do it rather than just throwing these rumours in air.

 

I hope this is Rahane's last series in test cricket unless he hits a couple of centuries.

 

So, drop Rahane after this series and continue with Gill in the middle order for sometime.

This should be the way to go. For pace bowling attack, we should not risk Shami and Ishant too much for home matches. We should go with Bumrah, Yadav, Ash and Jadeja as our four bowlers at home with Saini or Siraj as third pacer or backup option. To maintain Bumrah's workload also, they can follow the rotation policy alongside Ishant or Shami. Don't think Shami will be part of home series Vs England though.

Now they are saying we need young / positive batsmen after defensive approach failed us. 

 

Trust me 2 more tests and if positive approach fails we will see likes of gavaskar shouting this is not t20 cricket they need to learn how to be conservative bla bla.. 

 

Then we'll be back to the 2 runs per over bat style till next collapse...

No u-19 or A team coach can send international cricket ready batsmen. The national coaching set up and the captain have that responsibility to give proper opportunities those youngsters. In our cases, this current TM has been anti-young players right from the beginning. They pick players who are in form, make them wait on the bench for 12-158 months and then pick youngsters for totally wrong formats or do not give a proper run to youngsters.

 

Take for example Vihari. He has played 10 tests now, 9 of them away from home. He was dropped for home tests after being the top scorer in WI and helping the team win the series! Same with Pant, dropped from home tests the moment Saha returned despite doing very well even as a keeper. But his supposed keeping weakness vs spin was used as the excuse to keep him out, without even trying him properly in home tests. Is that the way to groom players?

 

Unless the coaching set up in the national side is revamped with professional coaches, none of the youngsters are ever going to settle in the team and grab their spots.
