Rohit has been playing since 2013. He hasnt performed even after getting picked over multiple other guys like Pujara, Rahane and Rahul who has shown much better capabilities than him. One test series against SA at home doesn't override his whole test career which has been a big fail. Are you that daft to project his IPL and LOI leadership into the test level

He has performed more than 1 series contrary to your statement.

Fail. all of the inflated averages are in India. you just proved my point that he hasnt been successful away from India

Vice captain? Seriously?

Is he now a Test regular for us? What a farce! How many times will this cycle repeat? Fails spectacularly in SENA >> gets truckload of runs on home tracks >> gets to play SENA Tests again.... rinse repeat.

So will he open or come in at no.5? I swear if poor Vihari is forced to open again while maggie enjoys the cozy no.5 position....:whack:

It was nothing to do with Away series, it was about performing in more than 1 series in response to your statement.

Anyway with regards to Sena Countries, only V Kohli averages over 40 in Sena Countries out of the current players:

V Kohli - 46.59, 32 matches

A Rahane - 39.00, 27 matches

C Pujara -  33.74, 29 matches

M Agarwal - 29.81, 6 matches

R Sharma - 25.39, 12 matches

KL Rahul - 22.43, 12 matches

H Vihari - 21.28, 8 matches

Rohit Sharma has played only 12 matches in Sena compared to the top 3 above, I am sure if he was backed more he would be averaging more than Rahane and Pujara by now.

Rohit has more skills, same for KL Rahul.

Since 2016 Rohit's numbers are improving whereas other players numbers are declining in test cricket.

Why will he open when we have 5 openers already in squad?

Against a career average of 46, tailunt's  average in SENA countries is about 26, and more relevant, in Australia 31 (5 Tests total).

Hasn't scored a century in SENA.

Well I'm sure he'll play, so I hope he does well.  Will be about time.

Its not Rohit getting picked. Its Rohit being selected as Vice captain that grinds our gears. When you are selecting over Pujara, what does it do to his confidence. Two bad matches and face the axe.

Well it should be Rohit getting picked too. He hasn’t played anything since the IPL. He can’t just waltz into the team and ruin a winning combination. Sydney will be a patta so if you drop Agrawal or vihari then it would not be fair to them.

The best brains in world cricket. Doesn’t need the title to be honest. He is going to be like that wise Kungfu Master or oracle from the matrix. In fact making him a vice captain is a demotion. Should have called him chief consultant or something like that.

Mayank looks totally out of sorts and will fail again, but I do not see the reason to drop Vihari. He looked pretty comfortable in the first innings and got out to a shot he should not have played. He has been out there, leave him in the team. Get Nooohit in because he is VC :wall: , and then a pacer for Woomesh!

You never know. I remember he opened last time around at the MCG even when we had Vijay, Rahul, Rohit etc.

Genius, that SA series was the last series he played where he was asked to open and he put in a record breaking performance. Since then we have played only one series in NZ. Should have been in the Aus test squad from the start but for selection mess up.

On leadership, basics of being a good leader (great at strategic and tactical decision making, making the team feel secure and confident, backing players, consistency in decisions, rallying the group together, calmness etc) remain the same irrespective of the format, but perhaps you are not intelligent enough to understand all that.

Does anyone recall why tailunt didn't play in NZ in early 2020, after as @@hoonyaSifar records, he had a hell of a series versus SA near the end of 2019. Although in the subsequent 2 Test against BD (also end 2019) he inexplicably did not do well.

Agree with everything but Does Rohit has age on his side?  He is freakin 34 year old.  This is not the age of a renaissance.  That means you are a proven TTF.  Why was Gill not played against SA?  What special did this senior did to take his place?  I think age is a criteria that is oblivious to our selectors.  Rohit may only have couple of years left..  Fitness slow reflexes..  Everything goes against him.  I'll back Rahul over him atm..  Even if he fails.

Agreed & it further delayed Gill's debut.  This f*** seniority is what everything is wrong with Indian cricket.
