Can England join the WTC final?

When the series started, they had a remote chance of making it to the WTC final as no one thought they could beat India in India. 

Surely they have looked as better team in the first test especially their batters like Stanley and Root more suited to play attritional cricket which is required in India. Noone thought Bess and Leech will bowl so well, but they have  delivered. With moin coming in Lawrence which will also improve their spin bowling  and Bairstow, their batting becomes stronger.  

Now if Root keeps winning the toss, it is a realistic possibility that they beat us in 3 matches.

If Kohli was captain for the full series in Australia, we would not have made it to the WTC finals anyways. Losing in Aus and then not making it would have been less painful. Now losing at home to England and not being in WTC finals will be a bigger disaster.

It was there for the taking. All it needed was half decent team selection and above average tactical acumen (like in the 2016-17 home season), but who are we kidding here right?

India loose next match, they are out of the WTC final.

 

A draw means, India need to win to two matches in a new stadium and new pitch.

 

Root playing like Steve Smith on steriods. Didn't give any half chances in first innings.

 

Kohli doesn't do well with pressure. And then you have another over-rated mental midget in Rohit Crapma. You got two senior guys who have never delivered on the world stage.

 

 

 

England have come with simple strategy, bat minimum 2 days at all cost, they have been harping on about this since SL series. I feel they are looking to ensure draw first and then go for win from safe position.

 

Get Root out cheaply the rest will crumble. Let Root score 150 plus, the confidence rubs onto others to chip in.

Yesterday some cric info analyst ask Manju did you bring Mayank and drop Rohit. He said not now....ICT is corrupt to the core just to not piss of the powerful players commentator, analyst , media even bcci defend these nincompoop. England are bound to win the day night test. We couldn't handle Hazlwood, what chance we have against Anderson? Even if we somehow win 2 & 4 tests, we're drawing the series 2-2. Heads should roll. 79-4 on 3rd day of this match is atrocious!

could care the least about wtc. I will be happy with a series win here. wtc is just a bonus and in the larger scheme of things, its useless to series wins against mighty opponents

Yeah no they could certainly beat India lead by Kohli, it was improbable but nowhere near as some Kohli fans were gloating here! We are missing Jadeja/Shami/Umesh here big time!

News coming in Cricbuzz Shami umesh Vihari still injured and wont be fit for last two tests. Australia lost to us but made sure we get handicapped..

Pink ball against Anderson and Broad under lights, good luck with that.  Our bowling might run through them too but those guys might cause more carnage. Has England played pink ball test before?
