India shoulnt be charitable. These guys would still spew venom against India. They are under impression that they are buying it from Oxford and india is just producing it so they feel themselves as buyer/consumer of Oxford and india as factory Store for Oxford.These guys are utter radicalized.

Pakistan should not be on the list till every Indian and every friendly neighbor country has been vaccinated.

As far as vaccines for Indians are concerned, its distribution that's the bottleneck, not production.  And this is a priceless opportunity for India to build markets, and immense reservoirs of goodwill, as well as cement the production capacity advantages that already exist when it comes to pharm-tech and vaccine production.  

 

Also note, these vaccines are getting to Pakistan via the GAVI initiative which is sort of a AMUL-style co-operative group buying/donation structure created for providing vaccine access to poor nations.

Maybe my post will get a cleshea but I blame Indians for this and mostly liberal Indians. Everyone is so much politically aligned these days that for them scoring political goals is more important than India's well being.

 

I mean when Corona was rampant in India, how much hoopla they created targeting Modi & current govt. Mocking thali bajao ceremony, hyping up migrant workers issue, hoopla about how Jamaati leaders were soft target etc. As a result foreign media picked up all these hooplas and likes of BBC, NY Times were reporting how muslims are being targeted in India for Corona or how India is using cow urine to cure Corona etc.  Basically the narratives which Indian liberals wanted to paint.

 

Since the time India has done brilliantly and better than most developed countries in tackling the virus and became one of the biggest exporter of Global vaccine, same liberals have gone quiet and maintaining pedestrian distance from the topic of covid because it does not fit with the political agenda anymore. All are busy with farmers now .So obviously India will never get credit bcoz its the Indians themselves who dont appreciate the good work and always try to find ways to defame India.

It's a delicate balance, delayed vaccination for maybe 2% of our population earns goodwill & future business with multiple countries. We're also making sure of not conceding space to the Chinese in the occasional sphere where we have the lead. 

 

Regarding Pakistan, the vaccine transfer is happening indirectly &  Gates foundation type organisations are paying for it. In a way, our local industry is benefiting from their vaccination paid for by western grants.

Even if Pakistan mil decide to turn a new leaf and want to reconcile with India - they are being coaxed by China to remain hostile, so that India remains engaged and occupied on both the fronts.

why would they want that?  That would mean an end to their gravy train.  They are not going to want that unless faced with existential crisis.  The Chinese are going to give them just enough aid/help to avoid that scenario.  Just like with North Korea.  Don't let it collapse, but keep it dependent.

Over here, in Mumbai vaccine hours are 9-5pm. Like a Government job.

My parents had to wait for nearly and hour to get their shot. 

 

My sister in law in the US is a health care professional and she says that the vaccination drive in her area is a 24/7 effort. 

 

We have to make disbursing the vaccine a lot more efficient. Also, some of the raw materials are difficult to get by. The US has introduced laws which limits their export of some of the APIs. Unless we can start developing the APIs in India ( 2-3 months away, from what I read) we will be slow in our drive to inoculate our people.

This is not true - some pharmacies have longer hours, but government run vaccine "mega-sites" are not 24/7.  My parents got their first shot at a County mega-site, and its appointments run from 8 to 4.30.  Around "closing" time, the vaccine sites will make the leftover 'thawed' vaccines available to general public on an unadvertised first-come, first-serve basis.  That is how I got my shot.  

 

One thing to note, regarding the US - and this is something that non-Americans frequently miss - is that each state in the US exercises a very large amount of control, jurisdiction - both legal, and executive, in terms of setting and executing policy.  On a bunch of issues.  Vaccination is one of them.  So there are radically different procedures and implementations varying from one state to another.  

 

Lets not rush to judgement regarding the vaccine rollout in India - doing this for a billion people is not a joke and will require a lot of effort.  And predictably there will be some issues as well.  None that aren't present everywhere else on the planet.  

 

I don't mean to dismiss your opinion and first-hand experience, but we in India often tend to assume the worst about 'desi' stuff, giving more than deserved credit to 'phoren' folks.  

 

The fact that your parents were able to get the vaccine with only an hour wait (this is in BOM I'm assuming), is creditabl - not cause for complaint.  My parents had to wait a bit longer than that in line.  In the 'great' USA.  

 

I don't say this to imply that the US effort is not good - I came away impressed with the logistics of the vaccine mega-site and the professionalism and dedication of the folks staffing it.
