Sgattick10
South Africs vs Pakistan: Shahid Afridi criticised Cricket South Africa for releasing their players for IPL in the middle of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. Prakash Rai Updated: April 07, 2021 11:34 PM IST Read Time: 2 min Shahid Afridi criticised CSA for releasing several players for the IPL during the series.© AFP Highlights Shahid Afridi criticised CSA for releasing their players for IPL 2021 IPL-bound players left for India in the middle of the ODI series vs Pak Pakistan defeated South Africa in the 3rd ODI to clinch series 2-1 After Pakistan's 2-1 ODI series win over a South Africa, former all-rounder Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to criticise Cricket South Africa (CSA) for releasing several players for the IPL 2021 in the middle of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. South Africa, playing without several star players -- including Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada, showed great grit and determination but eventually suffered a 28-run loss in the third and the final ODI. Questioning CSA's decision, Afridi said it was "sad to see T20 leagues influencing international cricket". "Surprising to see @OfficialCSA allowing players to travel for IPL in the middle of a series. It is sad to see T20 leagues influencing international cricket. Some rethinking needs to be done!!" Afridi tweeted. Afridi also congratulated Pakistan on their "fine series win". He was particularly impressed with opener Fakhar Zaman who scored back-to-back centuries in the last two ODIs and played a key role in Pakistan's win. Afridi also praised the batting of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who missed out on his century by just six runs in the third ODI, getting out to Andile Phehlukwayo on the last ball of their innings. "Congratulations to Pakistan on a fine series win. Great to see Fakhar follow his brilliant innings in Jo'Burg with another 100. Babar was once again all class, excellent bowling effort by all. A job well done," wrote Afridi, congratulating Pakistan on their win. Riding on skipper Babar Azam's century, Pakistan won the first ODI by three wickets. However, they came short in the second ODI by 17 runs, despite Fakhar Zaman's record knock of 193 runs -- the highest individual score during a run chase. The visitors clinched the series 2-1 with a comfortable 28-run win Centurion on Wednesday. Link to comment

ShoonyaSifar
Keep crying. If Aus, Eng or NZ were touring SA, am sure BCCI would have been much more flexible with CSA and allowed IPL bound players to join later. Kudos to them to ensure IPL starts at full strength and showing PCB that IPL takes precedence over tours by PCB. Has that joker Ehsan Mani said something after this humiliation? rollingstoned, raki05 and nevada 3 Link to comment

zen
Unfortunately it will take time to sink in that IPL has more value than some random bilateral LOI series IPL has a highly competitive environment that replicates LOI world events, playing among a galaxy of quality players and under the guidance of quality coaches. A player can be selected based on his performance in IPL compared to some performances in a random low intensity bilateral Ideally, one should not organize a series around IPL Link to comment

Intensity is something people don't know how to decipher based on performances. Playing these pointless bilateral where the intensity is much lower makes it easier to score big. Looking at Kohli here. WC is where the intensity level picks up and ofcourse IPL. Kohli is a great test batsman and used to be a wonderful T20 batsman too. He is vastly overrated in odi. Failure after failure in KO stages means he isn't as great as he is touted to be. People can say one off game but this one off has been happening every other year in important tournaments. When the intensity is higher he has faltered in odi. In tests we all saw how clutch he was again over the last 2 years as well. He failed vs England at home. Failed vs n.z in an important game for WTC qualification. Only played well vs a weakened s.africa at home. Time to retire? Or perhaps time to give up captaincy. Link to comment
