A country where a population control bill in the most overpopulated state is called communal. A place where anarchists are celebrated. A place where people say a corrupt and inept fool who cannot get water to his constituencies the best CM. A country where a brand new train was stoned because of politics. A country where people give a damn about their responsibilities - paying taxes, voting, doing some basic civic work such as keeping their own localities litter free. A country where people expect freebies despite knowing it comes at the cost of actual progress. What on earth can we achieve in a country like this? People are happy with status quo - it gives them a chance to whine and bitch while continuing in their selfish ways. They will vote to be inconvenienced because a change is scary. That said - is a train or modern amenities worth living in a police state where you can disappear at any time? Semi conductors & Chip manufacturing revolutionized Chinese tech. I hope I see a revolution in India in coming decades in Chip manufacturing but looks like by then even that would become outdated & of little significance. We perhaps have missed the bus altogether. China was revolutionized by Deng Xiaoping who survived the Great Leap Forward to emerge in the Gang of Four and then survived them to become the saviour of China. He was a visionary like Lee Kwan Yew. What China is today is due to him - his canniness to show China to be a non-threat while stealing tech and know-how from the west has paid off handsomely. That said, China is only a few droughts/floods away from revolution. People are ok living in the police state as long as they have jobs and food.
