New Zealand cricket legend Chris Cairns is on life support in Australia after suffering a sudden medical episode and collapsing, according to multiple reports.

It’s believed Cairns, 51, suffered an aortic dissection in Canberra last week, which is a tear inside the body’s main artery.

Cairns has reportedly undergone several operations since collapsing but a number of New Zealand media outlets - including the New Zealand Herald - say he has not responded to the treatment.

He was in Canberra at the time of the collapse and has been treated there, but is due to be transferred to Sydney.

Cairns played 62 Test matches and 200 one-day internationals for the Black Caps.

In 2000 he was named one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year.

He is someone...I hate him yet I love him..

I cried for 2 days after loosing that CT 2000 match and he is tbe main culprit...

I love him for his hitting ability and good bowling....more than all that...he is a wonderful gentlemen....ofcoutse, most of the players from NZ are humble

Wishing him a speedy recovery. Had so many setbacks in life post retirement. Sidelined after he was part of ICL and was found guilty of match fixing.

No they aren't. Kiwis are not humble. What's this horseshit. They aren't. All fake. India need to create animosity between themselves and Kiwis if they want to win away in n.z.

Sounds very grim. Will always remember him as an entertaining cricketer. He scored his first ODI century in India. He was a big crowd favorite in Indiia as well, drawing huge cheers from the crowd. His dad Lance was a NZ player too, a contemporary of Richard Hadlee. Lance played for NZ till 1985. Chris played first for them in '92. Must be the fastest passing of the baton between father and son in cricket!

One of the best all-rounders the game has ever seen, fiercest hitter of the cricket ball and a great fielder, this is a guy I adore. experienced a slew of difficulties in life , champion cricketer such as him deserves better.
