The Realist
Believe it when I see it. Could just be BS. While the batting coach Vikram Rathour backed the out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane, the team management doesn’t want his form to affect the result of the Manchester Test. Virat Kohli & Co have a golden opportunity to win the Test series in England after 14 years. But as Ajinkya Rahane is the weak link in the Playing XI at present, he is set to get the boot with either Hanuma Vihari or Suryakumar Yadav getting the nod. The other potential change is Jasprit Bumrah. His 6-3-6-2 spell after lunch rattled England in the 4th Test. He is India’s highest wicket-taker of the series for India with 18 scalps. But he has already bowled 151 overs in the series, third-highest. With the IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup coming, the team management and the BCCI are not ready to take any risk. As Mohammed Shami was rested for the 4th Test, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested to manage his workload. India Playing XI vs ENG 5th Test: Openers: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, No 3: Cheteshwar Pujara, No 4; Virat Kohli, No 5: Hanuma Vihari/Suryakumar Yadav, No 6: Rishabh Pant (WK), No 7: Ravindra Jadeja, No 8: Shardul Thakur, No 9: Mohammed Shami, No 10: Umesh Yadav, No 11: Mohammed Siraj https://www.insidesport.co/india-playing-xi-ajinkya-rahane-all-set-to-be-replaced-bumrah-likely-to-be-rested-as-virat-kohli-co-aim-to-wrap-up-series/ Link to comment
Lone Wolf
If Karate kid gets rested we may have a good shot at winning our first test win ever in OT Manchester. Bumrah will go out & Shami will come in.. May as well give Prasidh a debut as well. Likely going to be 3 day test looking at weather. SRT100 and rangeelaraja 2 Link to comment

Prasidh / Shami No.7 is too high for Shardul. He used to average 16 in FC. He may have suddenly improved his batting but give it at least 10-12 innings to be sure. Otherwise we will end up creating additional pressure on him. Also, if you're going to play both Mayank and Pujara, I would interchange their positions. Pujara against new Dukes ball is a walking wicket. Much better if he comes in with a slightly older ball but if he is no.3, 8/1 will immediately become 8/2. Also, Shami and Umesh can both leak runs. Not sure if Prasidh can be the answer but would love it if Kohli tries someone new for once. The last fast bowler we tried was Siraj and it was fantastic. We should try Prasidh - fresh legs, new energy and a different challenge for English batters. Link to comment

He looked completely spent, apart from one spell where it was the final roll of dice for him. Given how important this match is, I think both Bumrah and Anderson will play though both deserve a break. Their workload will need to be managed carefully by their captains. SRT100
I do like the team that @express bowling selected as I think its likely to be the team used now. 1. Rohit 2. Rahul 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Mayank 6. Pant 7. Shardul 8. Ashwin 9. Umesh 10. Shami 11. Prasidh While I am not against SKY or Vihari, I feel Mayank gives better stability at 6. Ash for Jaddu must happen, we need to change the spin set up given Jaddu's lack of penetration this series. I dont know anything about Prasidh, however a variation in the pace attack gives something different for England to worry about. Batting Order of Hitman, KL, Pujara and Kohli is strong. The middle order now looks stronger too with Mayank,Pant, Shardul and Ashwin. Plenty of half centuries and centuries here. Pace attack of Umesh, Shami, Prasidh and Thakur is good with Ashwin to bowl spin. We have the line up to either win the game or draw it. Link to comment

Would India consider playing two spinners here then? As the line up could even be stronger batting wise at the expense of Prasidh Lets remember India need to at worst draw this game and this batting lineup offers that chance. Not to mention Jaddu and Ash can keep things tight if required and make scoring difficult for the Poms. The middle order now becomes very very long and strong with Mayank, Jaddu, Pant, Shardul and Ashwin. 1. Rohit 2. Rahul 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Mayank 6. Jaddu 7. Pant 8 Shardul 9. Ashwin 10. Umesh 11. Gollum
Just wanna see Rahane dropped, rest all secondary. There has to be some accountability in the batting unit. Hope Bumrah plays, too important a test. Wish he plays here even if it means missing T20 WC, anyway he is a KO choker and our team under Kohli will choke in SF irrespective of who plays. Focus all energy on winning this test, will define the legacy of this Indian team and bowling attack. No Siraj please, he looked spent in the previous test. Shami in his place. Ashwin is semi-retired, so won't consider him. DeepSpace
The game will be a draw due to partial washout! Who cares? Bewda is in isolation probably spending the days passed out drunk. AuxiliA
LOL we haven't won the series yet. England will prepare a green pitch which can produce result even in 3 days. Rahane MUST be dropped. Sadly, no point in playing Ashwin now as he lacks match practice with the bat. Bumrah is a must. This is an extremely imp. test. He can rest later. Shami in place of Siraj.
