BCCI handling of this Kohli Episode has been nothing short of PCB level of unprofessionalism

Recommended Posts

So lets see the timeline which began in 2019 till which the relationship was hunky dory

1. Failing to choose a no 4 batsman and then blown away in semi finals. BCCI previous board complained to new board about kohlis temperment in team selection which started back in south africa series with rahane bhuvi fisaco

2. The precursor was eng series in which pujara was dropped for test 1 and kuldeep chosen in lords

3. Post world cup fisaco suddenly kohli decided to play all and sundry intl t20 s and matches which he would have avoided previously fearing rohits rise. In middle rohit won two Ipls

4 Aus series. Bcci mandarins were fearful n not happy with he leaving due to maternity. After 36 all out they feared 4-0 and thats where tables turned and with the win they started go get upper hand. Also during the series there was the rohit sharma injury n communication issue.
5. WTC loss and kohlis selection issue. Uneasiness was brewing.
6. Eng 5th test: KOHLI scuppered the match n embarrassed bcci the day after dhoni was announced as mentor.
7. Meeting was held and kohli wanted rohit to be sacked as odi vc and rahul/ pant vc.
8. Bcci leaked it n kohli resigned from t20 captaincy.

One more item can be added -

going AWOL in batting in the 3rd test after big talk of not backing down, not taking a step back etc and blaming the bowlers for the defeat. The Australia series has punctured a massive hole in his value balloon.

Off topic, but a fun fact that I just discovered:

on /r/cricket I see several people vote this comment up:

I mean what kind of bubble are they living in? or are they playing the reverse game?

They are running around like headless chicken in the last 4-5 days. Have lost the control over their nurtured mediamen. In all probability, the payments to their minions have been stopped (you can see the effect on the usual PR handles on this forum as well).

Hence the cry for a new PR. But the ship has sailed.

Amazing disrespect shown to arguably India's greatest test captain... Team was a shambles abroad with Dhoni in charge, don't remember him facing evej 1% of this scrutiny

Because he won the three big trophies that mattered the most - T20 WC, ODI WC and CT. And then very shrewdly quit Test cricket all together in late 2014 to show how concerned he was about his own performance. That softened the criticism.

Virat backed Rohit Sharma many times  South Africa series played him as a middle order batsman he failed, sri lanka series dropped Pujara and gave him Pujara’s position he failed ,Australia series he failed,Wi series sacrificed his favourite position just to accommodate him but he failed. Now people saying he wants to remove Rohit.

For some weird reason Dhoni is everyone's fav, media, Board, spectators, awam etc, his PR is the best but I guess winning ICC tournaments and IPL helped, not everyone is a test match fan here

The respect has to come from both sides and not from only one side . India has seen many captains/greats  and generally they have been well treated bar few exceptions like punishment when captain took up player remuneration , few episodes of Bedi & Gavaskar .

If you do not show respect to other side and antagonize others , you will have to pay for it. There is a limit set  for player and captain , you cannot cross that .

Kohli was very well treated & respected for last 7 years even though he exceeded his limits in selection of 15, 11 , selection of coach etc.

Tell me which caption currently  wields the power same as VK in above matters . Due to leniency of the board this went on for so long. He could do that with previous COA  but this Board set up may not take that .

Would he survive so long say in Aussi eset up as captain  ? Even KP did not survive .!

Tell me usually if Board selects Coach & support team and Captain is unhappy -what happens -  Captain will resign and if he does not, Board will give captaincy to someone else . But in Kumble's case Coach was removed !.

You need to think of what Kohli did compared to previous captains-

1.Favoritism for his buddies - only Gavaskar can be accused of this to some extent among other captains - cases like Suru Naik etc getting into eleven.

2. Autocratic selection of the XI and frequent chop & Change  .

3. Overriding influence on selectors .

4. Disrespect to selectors by not following protocol. You select 20 + players and then you ask for players outside of those 20+ . What if board gives something similar treatment to Kohli. ?

5. Never gave an impression that he put great priority &  made attempts to build a winning team.  If that was so, he would have identified & persisted with his choices, would have  stepped down from playing eleven and given chances to youngsters in meaningless bilaterals.

I think the last straw in this episode looks like the way he behaved with Top mandarins of Board in this episode of proposed transition.

Even now i think  he will continue as Test captain , issue is in short format and board will be right in having 2 captains - one for tests and one for T20 & 50 overs .

'Backed' Rohit till the time he was not a captaincy threat. EVERYTHING changed after the 2019 WC. The way he publicly attacked Rohit (to the extent of calling it unprofessional) for the injury status before Australia series was scandalous. And then vs England at home, 'rested' Rohit from first two T20Is.

I hope no captain ever 'backs' a player in such a manner.

I just hope Mumbai lobby doesnt take over now else there will be no chutkara from Rahane..well any kinda lobby is bad ..mum lobby is as bad as kohli lobby

Mumbai has one of the worst regional minded alum in Indian cricket , it’s more a culture of nepotism and sub-optimization prevalent there on the whole. Look at urduwood for instance nepotistic shithole..

need to keep Mumbai **** politics far away from cricket lol…you are right
