exactly why blame ipl.... even ipl best performers were not included in the team. Besides it's not like only India play ipl, it's all about team selection and captain moron this loss is on to them. The team played Test match prior to WCT20..

 

They were individuals playing IPL but team did not play any t20 together.

 

I would disagree too much cricket. They could have stayed away from money(IPL)

 

Definitely the selection.. Selectors were going with reputations rather than recent form.

I was also one of guilty parties who thought this was a well selected side with only negative of too many spinners & too few fast bowlers. The biggest negative though turned out to be the captain himself, pulled the team down to unimaginable nadir

This has been in the making for a couple of years now, when the no.4 crisis arose we needed one of the top order batsmen to put their hands up and move down but no they had to pad their stats by swallowing balls in meaningless bilaterals, Sachin,Dada,Gambhir etc were willing to bat in the middle order for the sake of team but here Top 3 were untouchable

Apart from poor batting form of our bygone heroes is the glaring fact that our spinners cant pick wickets, they are neither economical or wicket takers.. Also picking only 2 fast bowlers I mean really?? What if Shami nd Bumraah both have got injured in first match? The selectors need some thrashing too

Since ipl and t20wc format are similar, I think, we should keep it simple, Just select top performers at each batting position and bowling position.

The team wasn't settled even until last series.

 

- There was no clarity of  top 3 - Kohli as a weak team captain couldn't settle and stick to a combination. He keeps on shuffling among himself, Rohit, Rahul, Sky and Kishan for top 3 role and never assigned any player his spot

- Middle order was a mess because of constant shuffling of players for top 3 hence even middle order couldn't get settled. Iyer played at No. 4 for a year in t20 before getting dropped altogether. M Pandey kept on playing T20I and lost his place closer to WC.

- Couldn't settled on a wicketkeeper spot also. Rahul; was marked as a keeper in white ball cricket and that was a good decision. His role was absolute clear in middle order. Suddenly Pant was back in t20 based on exploits in test cricket!. That decision means Rahul has to be pushed back to opener spot messing up everyone position. Kohli as a dumb captain couldn't see that coming.

 

- Absolutely picked wrong fast bowlers for T20. Bhuvi and Shami has no place in t20.  Deepak Chahar and Natrajan won us a tough series in Aus on true batting wickets. They could have been handful on these sluggish pitches and offered variety. T20 needs different kind of bowlers but Kohli picked his test match lineup with all similar hit the deck bowlers.

- Messed up the spinners as well. Kept on playing Yuzi, Kuldeep and Washington leading to world cup in all matches and suddenly 4 new spinners were picked without giving them a fair run. All teams are just playing their top 2 spinners which have been playing for them for good 2-3 years. Imad-Shadab, Moeen-Rashid, Agar-Zampa, Santner-Sodhi etc. and we were unsure about our top two spinner on match day vs Pakistan.

 

- Curious case of allrounders- Pandya is a genuine allrounder when he bowls. But he was unfit and not bowling fit. Jadeja is a pseudo allrounder in white ball cricket. He can be good only a s a 6th bowler for a 2 over spell. but was picked a specialist bowler.

 

 

Overall the team was in shambles before the world cup with no defined roles for anyone. So, the disaster was served right for the team.

Which team would be threatened by our bowling lineup? They simply need to see off Bumrah .Need to move beyond Shami,Bhuvi,Thakur,Jadeja .

Most of our players have technical issues which they refuse to sort out. Don't know what these coaches are doing there ?Batsmen bat too slow on flat pitches, fail miserably if it bounces, swings or spins .They did not fail due to lack of bravery or intent .They are simply not good enough to rotate strike, find gaps in fields, scoring boundaries . 

 

Kohli is terrible in team selection, field placements .TM refuses to drop non performing seniors .The only template we have for winning T20s was in 2007 where non performing seniors were shown the door .Dropping Dhawan was the right move. Why are Rohit,Kohli undroppable? Seniority first disease is rotting this team. 

They wasted lots of games on Pandey,Shreyas,Jadeja earlier on Jadhav,Shankar,Rayudu .

Jadeja & Pandya should not be counted as all rounders .

This sounds simplistic but is probably closest to the truth. He has the capability to pull the team down single handedly. Remember 36 all out? The team bounced back like it was just a bad dream and won against all odds after he left the scene. Either voluntarily or by force, he needs to be kept out of the next T20 WC and the difference will be immediately clear. Infact, it should have been done in this WC itself. His "farewell" tournament is an unnecessary burden on the team. Plus the coaching staff also could have picked a bilateral series as their last one instead of a high profile tournament like the WC.
