Respect for Kohli

  1. 1. Was sacking of Virat the ODI captain done disrespectfully by BCCI/Ganguly?

    • Yes, a player of such stature cannot be sacked as captain. He can only be convinced to relinquish his captaincy but not fired from the position.
    • The BCCI is right in its decision. However, they could have been more professional like informing him ahead of time and thanking him for his services etc.
    • No, BCCI is not disrespectful in any way but completely justified in its action. In fact, this action is already 2 years overdue.

Being bigger than the game is not difficult in a country where there is a super star culture. Where Kohli erred is not having an ICC trophy under his belt and losing to Pakistan in most humiliating way. Look at Dhoni he sucked (as a batsman) since the inaugural t20 world cup which he won and yet he was untouchable for years and he definitely become bigger than the game from post 2013. Kohli is an idiot if he thinks pan Masala series wins counts.

Right Dhoni won his first T20 wc and first ODI wc which bought him lot of leverage. Besides kohli is in awful slump, its just too convinient for BCCI to legitimately drop him if he tries anything stupid. AB was the last "great" player in that sa team so everyone were desperate to have him which isn't the case here

Right. It is silly to think he only resigned T20I captaincy but wanted to remain as ODI captain. Does not make any practical sense at all.

He was pushed out from T20 captaincy and not resigned. The fact that selectors picked all Mumbai Indian players for T20 WC shows who was already calling the shot. Kohli had a spectacular fall from grace which no expected so early in his career.

Ganguly took a big risk here. They're calling Rohit a "bcci captain". Anything less than the cup will mean disaster optics wise for both, hope they're aware of this and don't take any half measures in team selections and preparation.

Also lol @ some people suggesting him to go AB route and fight with the board. Given his awful form, bcci can snatch everything away from him if he decides to push them. Things can go downhill pretty fast in india, he's not bigger than the game

There is not much to loose for both . By 2023 , both will past 35 . Do not see chance of either of them getting a go at captaincy post 2023 plus both past their prime.

Then resign? Who is stopping him? This is a country of 1 billion people. There are thousands of "aspiring Kohli's". Kohli isn't doing India a favor by playing. It's the other way around. If not him someone else will become the next star. There is no shortage of players. This is the problem with Indians. They become too emotionally attached with their superheroes.

Yes he scored hundreds . That is past . But for 2 years it is blank. Can't complain if not leading the way with runs.

Despite not liking him I do feel for him. When you don't recognise that you've overstayed your welcome it doesn't matter how good or bad a leader you are/were. You are on borrowed time. The team needed a reset  at least 2 yrs ago imo.

What made kohli the player he is was always going to mean that he would have to be removed kicking and screaming from his position eventually.

I doubt anyone is rejoicing as such. People are just relieved that Kohli's tenure has ended, hopefully leading to better things for Indian cricket. That being said,  even good captains get stale, like MSD towards the end of his time.

Try and put everything on Rohits head and then we will see who does what.

Virat needs to be celebrated.

He has given his best for the game and the country(not bcci i suppose), and that fact needs to sink into todays attention deficit kids.

India has long suffered mediocrity , and looks like the story will continue for some more time

Test match is never easy, Rohit will soon find out...the day he (or whoever) is given the captaincy role

'Utter disrespect': Twitter enraged at BCCI, Ganguly for 'sacking' Virat Kohli

The news of the BCCI replacing Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as captain of the ODI team was received with mixed reactions on Twitter. While some fans welcomed the decision, others were simply missed with Kohli's termination as captain. Moreover, what irked the fans further was the manner in which the information was revealed, with the BCCI simply putting out a tweet saying, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward."

It is not known whether Kohli made the call or the BCCI took the decision for him. But that didn't stop fans from bringing out the daggers on the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Many took jibes at its president Sourav Ganguly for 'sacking' Kohli and more so for doing it without any mention of his accomplishments or acknowledging that he's achieved as captain. As speculations grow as to why was the decision taken and who was responsible for it, here are some of the tweets reflecting the public's disappointment with the BCCI.

In October, ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup, Kohli had tweeted that he was going to step down as India's T20I captain after the ICC tournament, but clearly mentioned his intention to continue in ODIs and Tests, perhaps harbouring hopes of leading the team at the 2023 World cup at home. However, the fact that Rohit was already appointed T20I captain, having both him and Kohli leading two different limited-overs sides is what could have let to the decision.

They are mostly bot PR but if general public doing this chutiyapa. Not sure when Trimurti will be thrown out from test squad.
