The swing, seam & consistent movement isn't just luck

Yes he needs some assistance from the pitch but then when there's very little his batting is equally good if not better, than his bowling, on such pitches!

My favourite player for India currently. I was infuriated with recent posters who never understood his role in the team. He's given the ball in the least helpful of circumstances (4th seamer). His job is to make something happen when frontline pacers shooting blanks. Can't get a more difficult ask and yet frequently makes it happen.  When was the last time an Indian pacer got 7 for in a test match? A real street fighter and someone who has the ability to land blows when India look down and out. A real street fighter. Met him in 2018, full of class and humility, really happy for him. Hope his critics show more humility now.

Word.   Along with Pant, Sundar and Siraj.  These 4 guys are national treasures.

yes, although sadly all 4 have been beset by either injuries (e.g., siraj, sundar) or fitness (e.g., pant, thakur) issues. all 4 have excellent temperament, which is a must for int'l cricket.

Should he open the bowling? I think we are under using him tbh.

depends. if there is swing only with new ball, and not with older ball, then he can bowl up front and one of shami/boom can be first change. however, on most SA pitches, there is always something throughout for the pacers, so I don't think it matters too much. He should bowl ahead of Rusty (i.e., Siraj) though.

Thakur has 200+ wickets in Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and has helped them win a Ranji (I think 2015 or 2016)..... So he can bowl and he can bowl more than gentle medium pace.

The infatuation with batting can affect people though. We are "always" looking for the next Kapil Dev, trying to mould someone into being Kapil. Why can't we accept that Kapil happens once in half a century like Sunny?

If Shardul focuses on bowling and bats freely without pressure to perform with bat, it will suit him well.  He himself should make it clear that he is a bowler first who can bat a bit. Thats it.

Batting is the job of Rahane, Pujara and Vihari types... tell them to do their job.

Before the start of 2nd test vs SA, one poster on the PeePee forum had said Indian pace bowling attack is the most overrated in the world.  He elaborated it stating that a club level bowler like thakur who won't even make it to Namibia/Scotland team is playing for india.  After Lord's 7fer, Someone tagged all his funny/trashy posts against the 'Lord'.  He is hiding ever since.  :--D

the worm will come out if and when Lord fails, which is bound to happen. that's why such people are snakes in the grass. when I walk in the grass near my home, I keep a watch out for such creepy-crawlies.

With all the hype that pace and sometimes bounce gets here, swing and seam without 85+ mph felt like the neglected child. I'm glad Lord filled that gap jolly well. So many SA batsmen didn't know what to expect, a corridor outswinger, a sharp incoming one or the occasional short one.
