maniac
Not as crazy of a comparison as one thinks Pujara 103 tests 7195 runs 19 100’s 35 50’s average 43.70 s/r 44.36 Ian Bell 118 tests 7727 runs 22 100’s 46 50’s average 42.69 s/r 49.46 Pujara won test series in Australia Bell was part of wins in Australia, Subcontinent (Ind, SL) etc. Why is Pujara undroppable and we don’t even know when Ian Bell retired ? vvvslaxman
I think PUjara has more match losing efforts. Frustrated, raki05, Stan AF and 3 others 5 1 Link to comment
BlueBlood
Ian Bell retired when he knew his time was up. Pujara still holds on even when he is 10% of his prime. Plus Ian Bell is a team player who doesn't suck all the balls and rotates strike. Pujara just wastes balls and puts the batsman on the other side under pressure. The only good thing about him is he knows his limitations and focused on tests while Ian Bell played ODI's regularly raki05, Norman, Austin 3:!6 and 2 others 1 4 Link to comment
sage
Ian Bell was genuinely a very elegant player and good to watch Sgattick10 and raki05 2 Link to comment
sage
Bell underperformed massively compared to his potential raki05 1 Link to comment

I am not zen, but I would say that chepu is comfortably ahead. much of bell's career was in the decade of flatter pitches (they started to get spicier close to end of 2010s), and he didn't really have marquee series. in pujara's case, he was a beast in SC for much of his career, and has that 2018 Oz tour (plus one very good SA tour and decent 2021 Oz tour). zen
Bell or Dell or whoever, who cares. The Count Pujara is the most impactful Indian batsman since the 1990 And a must in my Ind AT 11 to bring that Steve Waughesque qualities to the line up Lord, Norman, Austin 3:!6 and 3 others 3 3 Link to comment

On a serious note, VVS, Dravid, Sachin, Sehwag were the most impactful batters from 90's...Pujara will come after them. Though he is more impactful than Ganguly, Gambhir (debatable). raki05, Austin 3:!6, Vijy and 2 others 5 Link to comment

Nikola
Think Ross Taylor has similar average, hundreds to pujara. If he keeps declining at same rate then soon comparison would be with Azhar Ali. raki05, sage and Norman 3 Link to comment
goose
I can’t think straight on the matter of Bell ever since he was recalled by Dhoni in that test. Laaloo and Lord 2 Link to comment

(Just the 2018 series carries the impact weightage of multiple series wins in SENA. Even if key won series in SENA of other batsmen are combined, they would struggle to come close)! Majestic
In tests, Pujara is better. Bell remained in the shadow of other great England batsman and was mostly a good support batsman but when he had to lead the batting in absence of KP and Cook losing his form post 2013, his batting got exposed. zen 1 Link to comment
Norman
Bell was one of the most elegant stroke makers I've watched. OTOH, watching Pujara bat is the equivalent of dragging your balls on hot sand. Frustrated, cricspirit, Stan AF and 2 others 4 1 Link to comment
