Ok so squad has been selected. Many of us may not agree with the personnel but nothing can be done. Let's just hope for the best and throw support behind each of these 15, no negativity, plenty of time for post-mortem if we don't win the cup.

 

Lot of voices against Jaddu but remember his 2019 SF effort, potential is there. In case we meet NZ/Aus in SF won't be a bad idea to send Jaddu as opener to counter the Boult/Starc threat. We have to be innovative and get the most out of our resources. Plus Jaddu is an amazing fielder, and he'll bowl well on turning tracks.

 

Ashwin may play 3-4 games only but on pitches like Chennai or Delhi very few spinners will be as potent as him. Plus he will be a challenge for most LHBs, not all, I say most. He may be unathletic but at least a safe catcher, and his power hitting has improved in recent years. He and Kohli are the remaining members from 2011 WC winning squad, hope for one final spark from them.

 

Shardul will be handy in Dharamsala and Eden Gardens, has good luck charm, plus can be played against lesser teams to keep others fresh. On true surfaces his hitting will pay dividends 

 

Rohit is giving us fast starts these days, can thrash the best of bowlers and take burden off Gill. 

 

Kohli is Kohli, best against genuine pace.....running between the wickets, percentage cricket etc can help chase down middling totals, plus his dominance over Pakistan. And he is finally out of slips, biggest positive.

 

SKY on belters, southpaw maverick Kishan who doubles up as keeper, Shami with his wicket taking ability, all our guys have ups. We are sometimes too harsh on them but opponents are wary of what they can do. We sometimes lack objectivity in rating our players, especially ICF is harsh on every Indian player.

 

Gill, Iyer, Pandya, Kuldeep, Siraj are our trump cards. Hope KL and Bumrah turn up in big games, nobody can doubt their ability.

Yeah, too much negativity here. Some even want X or Y to fail so that they can prove themselves right.

 

It is a quality team and just needs some luck to go our way. Last dance for many players so they will give it their all.

Too many people especially here on ICF get caught up with over analysis mostly picking out the negatives and completely extrapolating them to insane levels. Need to have a good balance is all I'd say.

All said and done this is a very good squad. Yes I would have like another LH in the top 6 but it's too late now. Hopefully they can come up clutch. It's just two matches. SF and F. Reaching SF is a formality. Hopefully we can rest bumrah for a few of the league matches if we are in a good position so he can rest up for the SF.

Then its a game of nerves.

 

Lets hope we test strategically with purpose and clarity.

 

The final xi might be completely different from what many are envisioning.

Chalo, done being realistic . Time to support no matter what. 

 

I hope Frau,.... I mean Jadeja smashes 40 off 25 balls and takes 2 wickets in the middle overs every match and makes me eat my words. 

And Shardul will turn into a monster death bowler and hits 25 runs at #8 of 15 balls .

 

Hardik to bowl all 10 every match as well.

Yes this is definitely better than last wc squad.

 

All 3 fast bowlers are genuine wicket takers and not container like bhuvi. Kuldeep is in much better rhythm plus indian pitches for him this time. Bumrah is well rested in last 15 months due to his injuries. Ashwin and jaddu will definitely bring lot of experience on turners. Pandya, being the heir apparent in LOIs will definitely give his everything. He will bowl full quota if needed in SF and F.

 

I'm quite satisfied with the bowling squad this time, only challenge will be to pick the right balance between bowlers and all-rounders. Especially for the semis, hope they go with the most in-form xi in the league stage

In batting, I wish iyer/kishan or even jaddu/pandya come at 4. Kl is really good once the platform is set, 5 or 6 will suit him the best. He'll also get to face less spin, this way 

 

Don't want to jinx gill, hope he has a great tournament and save his best for the big games

Nothing is perfect but the Squad is pretty good. Ashwin replacement may also help more than having Axar. People missing are not sure shot candidates who are missing. Younger ones will get their chance next time if they dont fade away.  

 

I am going to support our team and be positive throughout irrespective of what is happening ball by ball. Mistakes will happen, bad overs, misfields, dropped catches, missed opportunity to score runs. Lets hope the team plays to its potential and fight it out there. Someone from opposition might take the game away on a given day and that is fine.
