Gautam Gambhir is on a mission

He always has been on this bandwagon but now he has his chance to change things. As a cricketer and commentator, he was extremely critical of this star worshipping culture. The mission against super stardom, against prima donnas, against individual achievements overriding team aspiration.

Now that the big prima donnas are out of the team, this has been his first real opportunity to impose his belief on the team. And we saw glimpses of it.

There were many stars in this series. Young and experienced. But the spirit was one team not giving up. Very much in his mould. If he gets two years, he may end resetting the culture of Indian cricket team. Hard task, but I believe that is what he is going for.

India will have stars under him. But he won't allow another Kohli or Rohit to hijack. Lets see if this works out.

In other words he'll be the star

At least this star culture will be gone….. Otherwise these stars rather than playing will focus on their followers , creating fanwars and then exploit their stardom to take team as hostage.

Now reports are that he may force Rohit and Kohli out in ODIs too.

I think it won't be as easy as it was in tests but if he does that then "phull sapport saar":phehe:

The absence of Virat and Rohit didn't make any difference to our T20 and Test team. Infact the results are much better without them.

Lets get rid of them from ODIs too. Jaiswal, Sai and Tilak are waiting in the wings to replace them.

Broadcasters will force BCCI to let them go to Australia one last time... I am 100% sure both Ro Ko will tour Australia in October for ODIs.

I think Gambhir really wants to play every ODI game now with 12-13 players he has in mind for 2027 World Cup.

This may be his thought process that he wants to play same team for big tournament for the period leading to it, this is why he dragged those superstars from holidays to play in Sri Lanka last year to prepare for CT.

Also news is that Bumrah will not have any say in what match or series he will pick and chose to play. It will be decided by coach/selectors.

Looks like a complete crackdown on superstar culture.

It's time for the two of them to retire from ODIs. They will be too old by the next ODI WC. People cite Kohli's fitness but he already shells so many catches, imagine the damage he can do at 38!

Gavaskar, Kapil, Sachin, Saurav, MSD, Yuvraj, Rohit, Kohli they all became bigger than the game and selfish and kept playing when they were completely underperforming. No one should have the power to decide when they quit. Selectors and team management should make the decisions purely based on the performances and also it is very important to groom the young players at the right time before it is too late. What is the point of RoKo playing ODIs unless they are certain to be part of the WC27 team? This entire hero-worshipping culture is just plain sick but then we fans are totally responsible for making these heroes whether it is cricket or Bollywood :(

Gavaskar did?

When he retired in 1987 from test cricket, he was not the best test opening bat in India but he was the best test opening bat in the world.

Gambhir in dressing room after the win - "Cricket doesn't stop for anybody, people will come and go".

:wp15:

Targetting Kohli. This is the same thing Ashwin in a polished way in his youtube. People questioned about crownd turn out because Kohli not playing. Before the series "Game is bigger than any individual". Turnst out packed house on the last of the test just 1 hour of cricket

Gilchrist retirement i never forget because of what he said.  HE dropped a few catches in 2008 sereies. He decided in the middle of the match to retire.

Easier said than done. Chappell also tried something like this. There will be ego clashes soon

Atleast he is taking rIght steps….. During chapple time he tried to connive with some other senior players to oust Ganguly, basically he dint want to end superstar culture but literally gave offer to Sachin partner with me and we can rule Indian cricket, thankfully sachin dint fall for it and exposes his ulterior motive. Whereas if you see Gambhir even during his playing days he was against superstar culture but dhoni and kohi fans make it sound like he jealous of them, i mean 2 wc final performer would be jealous of knockouts non performer..
